Yes, if you're in N. America (this is why you should put your location in your profile).

Will the 2.3 L Mazda 3 put out more horsepower with Sunoco 93 octane gas?

Only if you put an ECU chip that will force your computer to react properly to the higher octane. If not your car might not run correctly with the higher octane fuel IF YOU ARE IN NORTH AMERICA.

Honestly I would just stick to the 89 gas until I get an ECU chip, CAI, and a supercharger. Then I will surely be pulling 300hp's and then it's worth puttin the 93 octane gas in!! (boom06) (boom06)

I have a problem with my gas in my car. When I use 87 octane my car hesitates as it goes through the RPM band so I tried 89 and the car does run a lot smoother and more proficient. I think 92 is a waste but I think 89 is better for our cars. I can feel a little difference with 89 and the car doesnt hesitate anymore.

My 1997 Subaru Legacy (2.2L, SOHC) only required 87 Octane. Whenever I ran it on 87 Octane however, the ECU was constantly backing off the timing because it would ping at lower RPM. You'd hear a knock or two, then the ECU would jump in. Performance was sluggish. Whenever I put 91 Octane in the thing, this problem disappeared and it ran better. FWIW.....
