Just installed an Injen CAI. When I accelerate abruptly, there is a sucking sound that comes from the filter area. If I accelerate slowly, I don't hear it. I've checked the clamp on the rubber seal of the filter and it is perfect. Besides that sucking sound, there is a 'throatier' sound to the engine. Is this normal? The sucking sound seems strange.

Um, you just opened your air intake up massively. The sucking noise is just that, the engine sucking in more air. Welcome to the lovely sound of a CAI. Learn to love it. ;)

OMG TAKE IT OFF YOUR CAR NOW YOUR MOTOR IS GOING TO BLOW, OHS NO!!!1

in all seriousness, when you add an intake if you hit the throttle hard, it will make a sucking noise, and sometimes will make a hissing noise when you turn the car off....

Thanks to all who posted replies – especially those welcoming me and setting me straight about the noises. I don't deny that I am a mod rookie. If people were amused that's great, I guess if I knew everything about car modifications it would be funny to me also that some dude was panicking for no reason. You all might also find it funny that it took a friend and me 3.5 hours to complete the job. Most of the time wasted was due to removing the front bumper completely which I found out later wasn't necessary (only needed the driver's side a little to pull back). Also, Injen makes their clamps only a millimeter longer than necessary so they are a bear to get on. I had a few other problems that I will be documenting. I took pictures along the way and I plan on making a Website that will help future CAI installs easier for other rookies.

Incidentally, I am very pleased with the new CAI. The car has more power and sounds better at high rpms than it did before. Thinking about adding a cat-back soon.

And finally, I bought it for $218 (total incl. s&h) from PTuning who advertises on this site. I ordered on Sunday and it arrived Wednesday.

Welcome (hi)
Enjoy the sound. I also love the sound of the hiss when you shut the engine off. It's like the car had been holding it's breath in high energy when ripping through turns and now it's exhaling (evil)

Yeah, I'm very poetic about my car, it's an extension of my emotions (scratch)

Check the How-To section, do a search, or post a thread next time you're looking to mod your car. Chances are someone has already done it and will be able to to help. There's lots of info and advice on this site. Cya around.

That sound when you stomp on the gas are the pistons coming out of the intake. Watch out! They sell "Piston nets" that will make sure you don't lose a piston out of the intake. I bought one, saved me a piston once, the net caught it...
