Civic Si owner here

I have a 99 Supercharged Si (6psi). I'm driving on a long stretch of road leading to my house when a black Mazdaspeed who was ahead of me slows down to line up with me. We're doing about 50mph. He hits the throttle for a quick second and lets off. I hear his blow off valve. Sounds sweet! I'm thinking "What the hell does this guy have done to this car?!". I'm never scared to lose a race and I want to find out what this guy's car can do. After hearing the BOV I was sure I would lose but whatever. I hold the clutch, rev my engine to let him know it's on. He floors it of course. I drop it into second. My car is screaming and we are dead even until I hit about 7500rpm then my car starts pulling on him. I shift to 3rd at 8300rpm. He's keeping up with me until I hit 7500rpm again. Then I pull away some more until my next shift at 8000. I hit the brakes soon after that. My car was just a tiny bit faster than this Protege. I was still very impressed with his car. Don't those cars only come with 170 hp? My car runs mid 14's in the 1/4. What the hell does this guy have under his hood?

Does anyone have any educated guesses?

Well i dont know what he had done to the car but the best i have seen a stock MSP do in the 1/4 is 14.9. If all he had done was a BOV than thats pretty dam good to be keeping up with you.. How much does a supercharged si push in HP??

Sounds like he is stock to me, 2L turbo at 6.5 psi. MSP run 15's in the 1/4 stock.

My guess is that hes not running stock boost and has a couple of bolt ons. Most magazines have the speed as a high 14 sec car stock.

if he has a bov, he probably has a fmic, did you notice a different exhaust? ours has an oval tip, instead of round like most aftermarket.

03s had round exhaust tip, sounds like a nice si for sure, rock on (rockon)

I think if the SI is running mid 14s then the mazdaspeed probably only had a boost controller and intake. the mazdaspeed would easily be in the mid 14s with those mods.

I didn't look for an intercooler. The only thing I noticed that looked aftermarket was a red sway/stabilizer/whatever bar at the bottom rear of the car.

It doesn't take alot to get to mid to low 14's. I ran a 14.3 at 97.8 before I got 3" exhaust, front motor mount, lowering springs, and shifter bushings. Track has been closed since mods were done so I'm not sure what it does now.

Sounds stock to me. You sure you heard a true BOV or was it the stock BPV? Even if the car had pipes/BOV, he wouldn't get the true "whistle" that most BOVs give on other cars. I have yet to see a MSP (other than OrangeMSP's T3/04e setup) give a true BOV whistle.. The rest are more of the air escaping sound and less whistle.

from a roll, stock msp's seem to be quite nice. i'm stock, and from a roll, i kept up with a stock 04 wrx about as well as the msp kept up with you.

Was the noise you heard something like an electric turkey from hell going Gobble Gobble under his hood? If so that was probably just the stock BPV with a SRI or a CAI. Our cars sound nifty.

Good gearing, a LSD and a relatively nice torque curve paired with a good driver and sticky rubber make for a quick car in the 1320.

Well, I must say I've been enlightened. I always liked the MP3 and Mazdaspeed. Now I like them even more. (Still not as much as my Si though. Hope you understand). Maybe the MSP was stock. If so I'm very impressed.

Nice looking Si. I'd say the guy was probably running upped boost, but who knows, it's just a guessing game unless he's on here. I like the Si though, looks really good.

Just the supercharger and muffler for speed. (Not that a muffler adds speed). It looks as though I will be getting a header this summer.
