OMFG.

3 times this has happend, once on the freeway, ones on the street and once pulling into my driveway. I let off the gas and the car just keeps reving~!!!!!!!!!!
It just revs and i would hit the brake and let off the clutch and it would go back down.... but today it jumped to the fucking rev limiter and just sat there BRR BRRR BRRR BRRR FUCK FUCK FUCK

after a few seconds it went back down

ok, so here are the mods, started right after intsalling the header.. i had the o2 sensor wired in a way that it rubbed on the car and wore through the wires (bad planning on that one) so i went and wired up a MIL and now the o2 is just hanging free in the engine bay. (no CEL yet)

HELP ME GUYS! Do you think it did any damage to the engine? what about the electrical system??(pow) (huh) (stooges) (burn) (attn) (attn) (attn) (help) (help) (pissed) :o (gun) (smash) (freak) (bang) I AM SOOO STUPID ARRRRG

youre gonna laugh but this happened to me in my RX7...check and see if your floor mat is getting stuck on the gas pedal (rofl)

or something like what replica mentioned...anyways, check your "dumb-ass meter"...i doubt its a bad throttle or whatever.

i think the problem has to do with the engine

Throttle cable needs to be cleaned and lubed.

zmepro
03-13-2004, 01:48 AM
is that it? it seems like it would be harder then that, i am afraid its somthing elctronic

zmepro
03-13-2004, 01:49 AM
and NO, cruise control was not on, and cruse control doesn't make you jump to redline instantly and it cuts off when you depress the clutch

Matthew

i bet your floor mat is sticking to the gas pedal. go out there and see if your mat is scooted up. if not see if your throttle cable seems sticky.

Had this problem in my t-bird, not fun when you hit the brake and the cruise control keeps going towards a semi. The relay to your brakes is messed up. Its located down on the pedal.

Matthew

thats not it, he said the cruise wasnt on.

I have a feeling this has something to do with your problems. (dunno)

zmepro
03-13-2004, 02:03 AM
yea thats what i thought, mabye they shorted or something, so like 15 minutes ago i wired the MIL eliminator in there. but i don't think the 02 sensor has ANYTHING to do with the throttle control

Must be your lame excuse to trade in your car (saw your other thread) :D

Real quick which o2 did u add the mil eliminator too... the 1st or second ... if its the 1st i could see u having problems. If its the second 02 and no CEL then i dont know.

it might cause his car to run lean, but it wouldnt cause it to rev like a mad bitch

Yeah the O2 sensor shouldnt make any difference in our cars. the throttle is totally machanical, no computers involved in the actual function of the TB. My neon did this in its last few months of life, but it was 8 years old. I'd say do what everybody says. Get some degreaser on the cables and throttle body (take it off first) then wd-40 the bia. Should fix the problem.

Dont take it to the dealer, cause even if it is just a problem with the TB that you had noting to do with, they'll bitch and gripe that it's your fault with the header or some shit. They always do.

akhilleus
03-13-2004, 03:34 AM
yeah the header wont look good at the dealer... for warranty work at least.

Well the thing is, it's not against your contract unless they can prove that the mod cause the problem, but they tried to do that for about three days with my short shifter when I went in to get my clutch/synchro's looked at.

I have a neon, I just changed the TB to the 52mm one and changed the Idle air controll thing and it runs like a champ

do these things have an electric idle controll?

PreFknLude_SiR

Was the car cold when this problem occurred? And do you have an aftermarket intake in there?

Replica
03-13-2004, 12:53 PM
Check your flux capacitator or replace your blinker fluid.

loccusst
03-13-2004, 01:15 PM
Make sure its blinker fluid, not headlight fluid. If you mix them up you have to replace the motor. JK

When I floor my car...pedal to the metal...the rpms will shoot up..and my engine will make a horrible noise....so did the rpms go up? or did the car actually go faster?

loccusst
03-13-2004, 01:23 PM
Both. But you'll go faster quicker if you don't floor it. The mp5 has a tendancy to flood the chamber with too much fuel with the pedal all the way to the floor. I would hope that if you floor it the rpms would rise. If you are getting a horrible noise though you might want to get that fixed, it shouldn't do that.

MarkSpark
03-13-2004, 02:07 PM
i guess it doesnt make a horrible noise, but it's loud...just the sound of it revving..

mypfizzle
03-13-2004, 02:08 PM
does your idle go up or down? if it is then it may be the idle control valve.. i dont even know if our car has one.. but my friends integra did the same thing and it was the idle control vavle.

zmepro
03-13-2004, 10:12 PM
my cars idle is fine

Aricjm15
03-13-2004, 10:18 PM
it may idle fine, but if the valve gets stuck all the way open your engine would rev like a mad whore

daKiNeP5
03-13-2004, 11:44 PM
My gas pedal used to stick to the ground when I floored it. Did you try using wd-40? I went under the dash and sprayed the little opening where the throttle cable goes thru the firewall and i mashed the pedal down a few times to spread the wd-40 and I haven't had the problem since.

zmepro
03-14-2004, 12:11 AM
hmm im going to try to lube up the throttle cable

charles

zmepro
03-15-2004, 08:02 AM
bump, ok new update, when i rev and let off the throttle, it momentarily sticks or jumps up a bit (eg, ill let off at 5000, it will jump up to 5100 then drop off)

WIDEBODYMP5

i have the same problem with my mp5 and the funny thing is they has replaced the 1st 2 motors and it still does it !

??? your car revs to redline without you?

zmepro
03-15-2004, 10:58 PM
UPDATE!

so, while looking around under the hood (and discovering i have yet another exhaust leak) i found that a little thing (the thing that connects to the stock intake, looks like a little relay or somthing w/ 2 vac lines going in it) was hanging right onto the spring and cable part of the throttle, maybe it was catching??? i ziptied it out of the way, anyone think that may have done it?

03-15-2004, 11:05 PM
I don't know, did you try it after you did that?

zmepro
03-15-2004, 11:06 PM
no, i have almost no gas and the exhaust leak is annoying.

loccusst
03-16-2004, 10:48 PM
Could of been catching on the accelerator and making the car seem like it was driving itself.

Just my .02, WD-40 is a water dispersant, not a lubricant. If you need to lube the throttle cable, use something else. Sprayed white lithium grease maybe?
