Is that something that you have to take off to install the boost gauge?

I dont recall taking it off(it's been a while), but maybe thats the easiest way to run the hose into the enginew bay through the hole in the firewall.

it's that plastic cover that is under the steering wheel column.....
the one that is right above the pedals.

it protects the egnition harness.

to install pillar gauges u dont need to take it off, although it might be easier to run the vacuum line through with it off.
it's in the "how to" because some people tap into wires there,
but there is a much more simple way to get to the wires u need to tap into:

just remove the cover on the side of your dashboard.
it's the one that is in the space where your door comes in contact with the dash when u close the door.

remove that, use any metal serface as your GROUND, and use the dimmer switch as your constant power.

here's a pic of dimmer switch:

Thanks for the explanation Dr. Sound. I was going to use that dimmer swtich, but I just had no idea what the How to was talking about with the u shaped piece. Thanks for the quick replies guys, back to work I go.

Nothing, its just a joke really, just saying my mods are top secret just in case there were someone from Mazda on here, blah blah blah.

But another question, I got the gauge installed and working, when I am sitting at idle my vac reads around 20, and when I give it light acceleration it goes to around 10 vac, and then medium accel goes into boost. Is this normal, what are the vac numbers you guys have?

What kind of guage did you get?

yeah, 20 vac is normal......it also depends on your altitude.
people get anywhere from 18 to 24 vac.

at half accel u should be arround 10-0 vac,
at full boost u should be arround 5.5-6 boost.

Ok good, I had no idea, I did not know if that was right or not. Everything that you said about half accel is right too, to my surprise in fourth and fifth gear my boost ended up around 6.5 to 7. Thanks for the help again.

Autometer mechanical boost gauge. Along with the full a pillar painted to match the other a pillar.
