If so they could also use this data to void your warranty and prove abuse

That only shows the speed of the car, which has nothing to due with abuse unless you are regularly doing 140 or something. What it COULD show is that the Protege's airbags never seem to deploy (haven't seen any that have in all of the threads about wrecked cars on here).

well i'll be damned....
as for the abuse issue, i don't think your dealer can play with the airbag system, but a separate data logger might not be that far off..................but then what would be the point of buying these cars?

That's not a comforting thought. (boom07)

Audi actually has some kind of feature they were supposed to be putting into their cars starting this year I think that prevents ECU modification. It's a big "problem" for the VW/Audi dealers because I'd bet about 1/2 of those guys are chipped. Fortunately for Mazda (unfortunately for us), our ECU is ghey & we have to get something like PerfWork's piggyback to be able to really see any kind of performance upgrade instead of a $450 chip that adds 30-40hp & 50-70tq like the 1.8Ts get.
Damn, meant to quote, not edit! Sorry!

Could also capture RPM's, throttle position ( to the floor ) etc...
Remember though that the VWA 1.8T is an overbuilt engine, good for 225++ hp in stock configuration at high boost levels. If we run >9-10psi we have engine problems because our engine isn't built for higher levels of boost (9.6:1 compression ratio is a tad high for a turbo street motor).

Could also capture RPM's, throttle position ( to the floor ) etc...RPMs means nothing on a manual car: I can be at 7k RPMs, but if I'm in 1st gear, I'm accelerating quickly, but my speed is slow.
Sensing the throttle position would be easy on drive-by-wire cars, but we have cable throttles.

Are you sure we have cable throttles? not electronic positioning throttles..... cause I have not seen any throttle cable.
could be wrong though...

The airbags only come out when needed, depending on angle of object hit, speed, etc. The MSP will set a code when airbags are deployed, thus saving freeze frame data. Also we do have a type of datalogger in which in certain situations we can tell how fast you were going.
On a side note we do have a throttle position sensor.

Yup, thought we had a TPS.
Big Brother arrives indeed, albeit a little later than Orwelle's predicted 1984. It has its upside too though.

Be advised that there is no Perfwork's Piggyback. That is the MPI Tunner. Perf is working on the AEM unit with Wagner.
