hey, i have $1,000 to spend on my MSP and i was wondering what you guys suggest. I will probably have somebody install the part(s) for me. so far i have an injen CAI, and NGK plugs. i'm having and evo CF hood put on along with a DGM CF grille and the WW mesh for the lower grille. i was thinking about getting a din panel with 3 gauges and some awr auto motor mounts but i want to hear your opinions.
thnx in advance. . . chris

You could be like me and get new tires and a windshield! WOOHOO no wait that sucks :(
I got over 30k out of my stock RE040's and I have been driving around with this damn crack for so long I am suprised it has not fallen in half!
Seriously though, I would get an exhaust. Mix that shit up with an MBC at 10-12 PSI and you got one hot little ride. (thumb)

Intercooler(that will eat up your $1,000) or a boost controller, down pipe, and turbo back exhaust. Read the article in Import Racer to see the gains from each mod.

Or that sweet SMIC that Import Racer (?) did the reivew on. They got 208/210 to the wheels with 9.4PSI, an intake, an exhaust, the flash, and that little stock replacement IC. It looks to be a lot less expensive and easier to install than a full FMIC.

i was thinking if i go exhaust to get the corksport cat-back and i think that should leave me with enough to still get the din pannel and 3 gauges. but i will probably need sumbody to install the exhaust and maaaaaybe the gauges

1. Exhaust or midpipe ($250-500)
2. Boost gauge and MBC ($125)
3. CAI ($200-250)
4. Use the balance towards an IC

Get a greddy profec B, catless midpipe or full exhaust, and enjoy.

Guys he already has a injen CAI. IMO get exhaust, it will free up alot of horspower and sound awsome. You will probly see more gains with an exhaust then a FMIC

Yea you will definetly see more gains from an exhaust. a fmic imo is not needed until you up the boost.

i was thinking the corksport catback w/ apex's dp w/ highflow cat. . . i have to stay legal with emissions

get the ion turbo back, mang!Ion turboback is $1400 he only has $1000 to spend!

and i don't think i can install an exhaust myself b/c i have no lift of any sort. . . what do you guys think about the corksport

i was thinking the corksport catback w/ apex's dp w/ highflow cat. . . i have to stay legal with emissionsWhy not just get Apex dp w/ high flow cat and get a custom exhaust? It would be alot cheaper and leave you with probably an extra $400.(thumb)

how much is an apex dp w/ highflow cat? and does it come in 3inch? how much would it run me to get a 3 in catback fabricated?

mspeed101
03-09-2004, 07:16 PM
I believe apex does not have a 3in downpipe with high flow cat but the 2.5 in with cat is $399. You can get a custom exhaust with muffler made for $200.

mspeed101

I was quoted $300 for a full 3in exhaust without cat! Oh yea and all mandrel bends too. Only thing I need to provide is the muffler

If I were you i'd go with a 2.5 downpipe(midpipe), and some catback exhaust, personelly I like the Greddy SP2 but to each his own. The fmic won't show much gain, my exhaust is probably the best mod i've made for power, my fmic didn't make my car feel any different. I even have a brand new Ion 2.5 inch donwpipe i'll sell you for 260 shipped.

option 1- downpipe, mbc/gauge, brake pads/lines/fluid, tint

option 2- mbc/gauge, fmic

IMO, because this is what I'm in the process of doing to my car...

Exhaust, Springs, CAI (which you already have), tint. I already have the CAI and am about to buy my Exhaust... From what I hear, exhaust = best bang for buck you can get WITHOUT upping your boost. But, its all your choice :D spend it all tho!! lol

IMO you really only need a 2.5 inch exhuast. Unles you are going to really mod the crap out of it and make it into a drag car. You wont see any gains with a 3inch as opposed to a 2.5 inch.

Except for the decibel gain ;)

I would put that $$ towards paying the car off

but if it's payed, then 2.5 in turbo back w/ cat

Um, I hope you're really not saying to forget the idea of upgrading your intercooler just because there's not enough of a "gain"..

Yeah, just because there is no physical HP gain does not mean that it is not practical (and w/ our tiny IC) essential mod for our MSPs.

Word. You need to establish a safer way to make the power already available before you add too much more power... Unless you like chancing it.

well i already have a CAI and the copper plugs and i do have tint(didn't consider it a mod) so it looks like i'm stuck between a custom turbo back and an FMIC. right now i think i'm leaning toward the turbo back and saving the FMIC for summer because i will be working alot more. for the custome turbo back what muffler do you guys suggest. . . i like the matrix CF with 4 or 5 in tip
