Has anyone else had problems with their lean rich gauge and 02 sensor? here's the skinny:

I went ahead and installed my a/f gauge and ran the wire straight to the blue on the upper 02 sensor under the hood. After about 3 or 4 weeks, the sensor went bad. took the car back to the dealer, they said since i modded it, they will not cover it and they tried to sell me one for 288 bucks. well needless to say i gave them a few choice words when i picked up my car.

So then i went and replaced the o2 sensor with the universal one from discount, figuring a sensor is basically a sensor right? well hooked it up, after bout 2 days check engine light went back on, sensor no good. i started scratching my head. took it back to the dealer, told them they were full of something since i replaced the sensor and i still i had problems. they agreed to look at it and their "msp tech" who is supposed to be good gave me the line of "oh since it is not a mazda part we cannot diagnose it properly. those aftermarket ones are pieces of shit and we wont touch it until u replace it properly. I'm gonna go after them on this, since i have had 3 other turbo cars in the past, had gauges in each of them, and never had a sensor go bad due to hooking up an a/f gauge.

Am i the only one who has had this problem? please let me know

Good luck with the dealer. Unless they can prove that the modification made contributed to the o2 failure, its a covered item. Contact Mazda headquarters or ask to speak with the local general manger for Mazda.

Cool. I had a problem with a Ford dealer in Apopka once and went that route. They made enough money off of all the MSP buyers, so giving you a new 02 sensor is not asking for much. You can also try going to another dealer. Some dealers don't hassle you over mods. Good luck.

have you tryied tapping into the ECU to get the O2 singal. Are you positve that it's the sensor that you tapped into for the signal that's faulty because there is a lower O2 sensor.

hey bro same thing happened to me but I tapped in at the ecu replaced my o2 sensor and disconnected the a/f gauge (not accurate anyway) and bought a front o2 sensor off of a 2001 mp3 it was a bosch universal worked great but I say your going to have to disconnect the a/f gauge and it should work. the same exact thing happened to me. and thats what I did

MoreBoostPlease- Are you kidding???? You expect someone to replace something that YOU modified (splicing into a wiring harness and tapping into a signal wire ((which is highly resistance sensitive)) to the pcm). They don't have to prove anything, I can tell you right now you caused the higher resistance in the wiring which the pcm thinks the sensor is bad. Oh, and by the way those aftermarket O2 sensors are crap and usually will throw a code. Sorry to be a killjoy.
I suggest when doing a A/F gauge just strip the insulation of the wire needed, this way it doesn't increase resistance.
On a sidenote if you bitch to the right people you may get what you want, Mazda is suprsingly nice.

don't be mad at the dealer/mazda for your errors. you modified the sensor and how it works, you pay the price. your dealer/mazda sold you a car with a fully working o2 sensor.

i guess i chose the wrong words to display the fact that i never cut the line initially, i merely added the wire to it with a standard add-on wire connector. i have done this many times before with no problems ever, but this time i guess it became a problem. whether it is something of my fault, that can never be proven, but i am still gonna call the gm and fight it thru them. wish me luck!! haha

hmm, even if you just tapped into it, it could malfunction. its just the nature of the game.
