Well, look in some of the car mags to start. If your going to get slicks you might need to buy some new rims for the front because not many brands of slicks are made for 17's with a 45 profile...or you can get drag radials, I think Nitto has out size.

Nitto 555 drag raidails shouls be fine if you are still in the 15's and dont have crazy mods like a t-78 or anything.

Im new to drag racing parts and what not. Why would slickier tires hurt the axels if you rev hard before launch?

Im new to drag racing parts and what not. Why would slickier tires hurt the axels if you rev hard before launch?Stickier tires mean more traction. Loss of traction means less load on the engine and the other moving parts, like your axles. When you do a high rev dump, and instantly have traction, theres a lot of stress on them.
The MSP axles are a bit stronger than a normal protege, but theyre still breakable.
Id suggest getting some Falken Azeni Sports and still launching pretty softly.
No clutch dumps.

or get some chrome moly axles like i got, they are HUGE and won't break! they cost a pretty penny though, around 600 bucks.

I'd worry about the transmission before I worry about the axles, they are pretty beefy comparitivly.

im running 16inch 555rs on stock protege5 wheels and the only thing i have to watch is my clutch slippin a little if i make a couple of runs back to back....but i do have 21,000 miles now and 19,000 of those have been with my current mods...but unless your going with BIG upgades i dont think you'll have any problem with your tranny or axles running drag radials

Thanks for the info. That would have been my guess but I was having a hard time picturing it. You just drive a little safer than usual, but its the same principal you should use with current tires too. Just less at risk.
