Ill be coming down from Vancouver, B.C. Canada. I didnt know at first if id be able to make it but looks like im coming down for this now. Is there anyway i can pay when i arrive? Incase the money doesnt get to you in time by mail?
Im coming down with wifey, so there will be 2 of us.
Should be a long drive, about 24 hours straight im guessing..........Fun!
I believe we are making a few stops before we arrive, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, possibly the Grand Canyon.
I cant wait to get out of this rainy place and down there for some sunny weather :D

I'm already dreading the 9 hour (each way) drive. I count six people from the Bay Area on the list, and some of them are already backing out of going.

I hate to say it, but I may be one of them.

Last summer, a grand total of 2 NorCal proteges showed up to the "all Cali"event because the drive to Santa Barbara is so darn long...this drive is about twice as long as that one, and I don't see what I'm representing when no one else from around here comes.

For a TRUE California meet, I really think we should meet somewhere in Central Cal, that way it's not so biased toward LA Proteges, and some of us NorCal/BayArea Pros can make the drive too. As it is, to drive 9 hours(speeding like a mad man) just to hang out for a day, then turn around and drive 9 hours home...That's the whole weekend, and at the end of it, I'll be more tired than when I started. It just doesn't seem worth it. (dunno)

Let's plan a meet for Central Cal someday. Anyone ever looked into Pismo Beach? It's a state park where we could all meet and drive on the beach(the sand is really packed) and it would be a great place to hang out and BBQ...it's centrally located, open, beautiful, easy to find...there's no track, but it's much better for a car meet than a random park, IMO.

Anyway, sorry for flaking, but that drive is just too damn long and I can't afford another speeding ticket.

Why does this always happen? Natey not just you because you CAME to the last big meet.It cant be anywhere else if we expect to have the kind of vendors we do and Mazdas support. They also would not be briging out the cars. We have alot planned for this event and its not just the Protegefest event. Next year we are tossing the idea around of having it up North to accomidate the nor cal members. But it wouldnt be fair if none of the Nor Cal members came to this years event, and expected all us to go up there next year. Give and Take. This is going to be a great event, sorry to hear you cant make it. If you would like a say in the planning of ProtegeFest and its location, please express your interest in becoming a member of the board of directors.

I'm sorry, too.
But I don't really mean "up North". Just "Central" cal, y'know? Equal.

SpicyMSP
03-24-2004, 12:25 PM
Well a few of us have a location picked out for next years event. That really is "up north". I just need some cooperation from the members this year. We cant do this event again, if no one shows up.

Say it ain't so, Nate! I'm going! Isn't that enough?! ;)

Seriously, I have a slight issue with the drive too(not a dis, Stepf), but I'm going to suck it up. I have been looking forward to the opportunity to interact with other Mazda enthusiasts since I heard about it. Plus, I gotta represent Hwy. 9 to all the SoCal heads! You know how we did it!

I wouldn't mind a NorCal location next time, but honestly, if it's not plausible or possible, I'll most likely attend next years anyway, no matter where it is(OK, NY or FL is probably a little too far). Besides, I'm a sucker for long drives with good friends and (stoned)

I'm still going to try to make it, and I have been planning on going...it's just so damn far that I guess I felt I needed to vent a little bit. Maybe it's possible that there's a little chance that I could have been a tiny bit grumpy this morning, too.(angel)
heh, I'm not even officially in NorCal, either. The Sacto guys will be driving an additional 2 hours each way, so I suppose I should quit my whining.

You Hwy9 guys better not flake again, dammit!(whip)

BTW: Alan, the only thing you're gonna spank is your angry inch!!(jerkit) (rofl)

Come on Nor Cal members!! This is history in the making! Biggest Protege based event so far. Vendor booths with great deals, drag strip racing, Protege Rally cars, free lunch, and TONS of other Mazda enthusiasts to meet and share ideas with. I can get great deals on the hotels too, so let me know if you need anything! There are going to be soo many cool cars there I am excited.

The Ballistic Protege will be there, the Tripoint cars will be there, the carbon creations rx7 will be there. Plus so much more.

Nate, I am going for sure.

My plan is to drive down Friday crash at a Motel 6 or something near the event (Steph I need hotel details from you) Protegefest on Saturday and then crash with friends Saturday night and spend the rest of the weekend hanging out with them, drive home on Sunday afternoon/night.

I was thinking maybe we could drive down during the day on Friday, maybe leave mid-morning so we can take the drive nice and easy, I don't want any speeding tickets either. ;)

Natey, don't feel bad. Me and Pfizzle wanted to go to the last "cali" meet too, but it's just too damn far. I didn't even hesitate on this one. I don't see how you can put on an "All Cali meet" and make it in the furthest part south of California.
Whatever though...You guys seem to have a good amount of participants, but it would be waaay easier if it were centrally located like Natey said. It doesn't matter if 80% of the people live in Southern California...It's the fact that by making the location in Southern Cali, that you make it too hard for a lot of us to make it.
