To pro and pro5 owners that have owned your car for at least a year, would you do it again today if you could? Or would another car be more tempting? They have advertised the P5 for $12,900 in Atlanta

i'm with red devil!
i may have gotten the MSP if i could have gotten one in spicy orange or blue if i could have waited for the price they're selling for now.
I still haven't got a year on my P5 but I would do it again if I have the chance. Probably go with the Speed. I started out with Protege LX 02, then the P5 03.

you do nothing but make negative remarks about the p5...if you don't like it, get rid of it and quit bitching about it.

Actually I probably wouldn't have gotten a Pro in the first place. I hate the electrical system! I never had more problems with headlight dimming even with the stereo off and no heat on, the lights will get brighter if I rev the engine from idle. With the stereo on, the lights dim to the beat (even with all of the upgrades). I hear it's the ECU.

I definitely would have done it differently, I would have convinced my mom to get me stick by force (evil) or I would have got the msp instead. Probably the MSP instead.

I would do it again... and I would stick to the P5 cuz I love the unique look and it's just a great car all-around! MSP? Maybe, but nah... too many problems... lol

When I needed a car the MSP wasn't even out and wouldn't be for a good year or a little less. I was tired of sedans and wanted a hatch anyway, I wanted the space.
So yes, under the circumstances then I would've gotten the P5 again. I did my research back then and knew what I wanted, no buyers remorse here.

It's been a great car. But the depreciation just kills me. Would I do it again? Well if I could have forseen the future when I bought the car, then the answer would be no.
I traded in my Audi A4 for the Protege 5 because my wife and I didn't need two luxury cars (we also have a BMW 325i), and because we were saving up to buy a house; so I needed something a little more economical, but somewhat fun.
When we finally applied for a home loan, we got such a great interest rate for our mortgage that I could have kept the A4 or bought something nicer. Now I'm about 4K in negative equity with the Protege 5 that trading in the car would just be stupid, hence I'm trying to sell it privately to re-coupe some of the negative equity.

this is my second protege, i used to drive '00 protege touring edition.
i would buy the p5 again, it's an excellent all around car.
but the 3 is good too . i would be very tempted to buy it...so i would have to test drive both and choose between the two...
i would definately stay within the mazda family. (2thumbs)

I'm glad I got the MSP. The gas mileage could be better, but it feels much more solid than my old B13 Sentra. The Sentra ran like a champ 10 years, and could probably go another 5+, but the MSP should serve me well for a long time. It's definitely the most entertaining commuter car I've ever had - if you're going to be stuck in a car for 2 hours a day, it might as well be one you like.
...But if I could have found a 323 GTX in mint stock condition, I'd get that in a heartbeat!

d'OH - Just realized this question was in reference to the P5 - my bad.
It really is too bad Mazda didn't do a 'Speed version of the P5 - if it existed I would have gone with that instead.

You bettcha! For the $$ I had available at the time my '89 Civic died on the roadside. Looked at and test drove the Corolla S and a couple Honda's. I picked my LX up one year ago tomorrow. Wanted a WRX but couldn't afford the MSP either. The Zoom Zoom comercials were everywhere back then. Only regret is I should have gotten the P5 for the times I have to more company computer gear around; would easier than a trunk or back seat cushions. And I should have gotten better tires on day two. We probably have more fun driving around than a supercar owner. We can use all of our performance during daily driving.

I include the sedan as well as the wagon. Just trying to decide if i should scoop one up at the dealer. They have really knocked down the prices to clear them out. Not many left, time running out

ive had my car for over a year now. and the only thing im not really happy with is the amount of power it has.but that is partially my fault for buying an automatic. if i had it all to do again. yes i prolly would have bought the p5.. i still love how people look at it and wonder what it is.. i also like that for every 5 honda civics i see.. i see maybe 1 p5.. -=P

Sorry to go off topic but I was wondering I want to trade in my P5 and get an MSP, what do you think they will give me for the trade in? my car has 11k miles on it. And how much are the 2003 MSP's and the 2003.5 MSP and what different about the too? Thanks for the info. Sorry for the threadjack I'am just regreting getting an auto :( .Everyday I drive the car and I want a stick and the MSP looks so sweet since they have soo much stuff the P5 does'nt get. I have to get the MSP soon before my P5 is worth nothing.

I'd buy mine again, it's been a great car. The power of the MSP is tempting, but IMHO it looks like a ton of other 4 door sedans running around...the P5 is more unique (nana)

well I would have stuck with my P5 if it was stick but it's an auto, and any turbo will probably screw up my tranny in the long run just like it did pirana's car. Auto P5=no fun :(
2500 rebate or 0%.

One thing I'm not getting is what are you comparing this car to when you say its slow? It's not any slower than a Corolla, Civic, etc....

In the situation where I was the last time, I probably would've still gotten the same thing. I was looking for cheap cheap cheap but not crap. I never looked at the hatch at the time, though. I probably would have considered the 5 then. I may have also looked into getting the ES trim, since I do like the black interior better than the gray. This car has been a ton of fun to drive otherwise.
The only thing I'd change is I would get a manual. I only half-regret the automatic because it helped me in the beginning when I was getting used to road/daily driving (this is my first car)... there were some situations on intersections where I was glad that I just have to push the gas and get out. Then agian, I'm sure I would've gotten along fine with manual. As I learn more and more abouts cars, the more I wish that I got a manual.
I calculated it and to get the exact same new Laser Blue LX manual (and sell my current auto) would cost me between $3000-$4000. That's not quite worth it for the manual.
So I may trade this car in earlier than I would otherwise because it's an auto.

I bought the p5 after about a month of them being out. I paid a little under sticker out the door for it. I do wish I could have gotten my p5 for 12,900 like they are going for now, but you win some you lose some.
I LOVE the look of the p5, especially the 2002 models. They really cheesed them out with the wheels and fender lights. Thats probably my only complaint, besides them nixing the whole p5 line all together.
This car has been nothing but awesome. Every oil change, spark plug change, tranny fluid change have basically made this car feel brand new again.
I do have a few other complaints but they are the usual: Not enough horsepower and the paint is WAY to thin (can't tell you how many chips I have on my hood and front bumper :().
Those are my .02 take them for what they are worth.
