Everyone do this poll. This way we can finally get some numbers as to how many people are actually here that have mp3's/p5 and so on and if they have tranny problems.

Step 1:

Check off which car you own

Step 2:

State whether or not you have had tranny problems.

Thanks

Newf !!!

I just started to experience problems shifting from 1st to 2nd,
sometimes trying to shift back in to first from a stop can be tricky I have to give it a couple of trys. I only have 12000 miles I've check the fluid but ok. should I change the fluid already. whats the best fluid to use.

it seems so far that around 46-48 % of MP3 owners have had tranny problems....that's scary shit.

I'd think it's more of a vocal minority (not to say there is no problem). I also don't think it's the extra 10 HP. In another thread, somebody said the MP3 has a different tranny than the rest of the Proteges.

very true

I'm pretty sure he was just kidding. At least I hope he was.

And yes, the mp3 seems to have a different tranny from what most people say, although I've yet to have any real proof that it does by a mechanic or something

The MP3 has the same tranny as all other third gen Proteges with the 2.0 liter motor...

I honestly could say that I have no idea what exactly is a tranny...but every morning, cold or hot, it seems like I am learning how to learn manual for the first time...I really have to ease my foot off the clutch EXTRA slow or else the car will jerk....

Well that's just part of learning how to drive a stick. As for the "tranny". That's just short for Transmission...as in manual 5 speed transmission in our case.

That's the thing, I do know how to drive manual...it's really hard to explain...I don't have this problem about 10 mins after I start driving in the morning...this car is driving me bonkers...now I hearing a whole bunch of shit vibrating...something near both driver and passenger doors...

my transmission BROKE at around 7k miles..
mazda replaced it for free of course..thank God for the 3year/30k mile warranty...
i drive pretty hard, it broke on a 2-3 upshift...
but i think i had a lemon tranny, because my new one feels much tighter than the one ever did

Don't know if that if normal wait time or not but that is what happened to us....said the tranny had to be built.....maybe your wait won't be as long :)

my tranny went at about 44,000 miles. Blew up bad on a 2-3 upshift also. The stealership wanted over $4,000 for a new one. I bought a used pro5 tranny for $500 and had a friend install it. BTW I had been MSP turboed for the 3,000 miles prior to my tranny blowing up???

lost 1st tranny at 13500 miles, then the second at 27,000 miles, and now the third also feels like shit.......first was replaced for free, and the second i had to pay for due to my mods on my car, the dealership gave me some bullshit about how my parts put to much torque on the tranny which caused it to sear off some differential pin or something like that, and they accused me of taking it to 8000 rpms on a daily basis and bs like that......it was kinda pathetic that i was telling the manager how some of the parts worked, and when i prooved him wrong there was a couple minutes of silence, and then he claimed that i was lying, and that i was just a boy and didn't know how car worked

oh by the way, i just had bolt on mods, header, j-spec and ms cams, intake, underdrive pulley, short throw, and straight through exhaust with a tsudo muffler on it......could not have been pushing that much extra torque on the engine, i wasn't even turbo'd for christs sake

On the other extreme, I have 50,000 miles on my original clutch and tranny and have had zero issues...

The problems, I maintain, are still driver related.
