Ok, what are the posssibilities of swapping out a 1.8L to a newer 2.0L? My 1.8 is giving me problems after finally putting on about 125,000 miles on it. It may be the tranny. It may be the engine. It may be something more, but I was just curious. I mean, aren't they like the same general block, or what is it? I would think it woudl be a pretty similar swap. Unless, maybe somebody knows of someone with a 1.8L engine or 1.8L tranny for sale. By the way, it's an AUTO.
THANKS

you may be in luck, a 2.0 will be compatible with your transaxle.

the 1.8 and 2.0 engines are the SAME, except for the ignition and the fact the 2.0 is a stroked 1.8.

with those differences aside, if you really want a new engine, get whatever is cheaper. im pretty sure if you do 2.0 you might have to get a new ECU, but the wiring harness etc should be the same.

last time i checked you can get a 2.0 relatively cheap nowadays.

what problems are you having? id like to say that the transaxle is acting up, and not the engine unless youve done bad stuff to it like a turbo or n20.

anyway, in summary, the 1.8 IS THE SAME AS the 2.0, and is not worth swapping to unless you have a dead engine (and an automatic tranny) in which your case you do.
