I am about to change the timing belt in my 00'ES since it's already 87K. I called a mechanic and he told me he can do the changing for $120 plus parts, and I can either get parts from him or simply take parts to his garage.
Many suggested replacing driving belts and water pump because they take almost the same labor as timing belt. Any suggestions on what else can be done? And do I miss anything or there's any unnecessary things in the part list blow?

Parts list:
timing belt, drive belt, crankshaft seal, valve cover gasket, water pump, timing tensioner(not sure whether it's necessary)

Thanks!

All I can add to that is be sure to get that tensioner changed as you said. I had one sieze up on my civic and there was rubber shit everywhere when it ate the belt!

change the other two belts.
water pump
anti freeze
thermostat
upper and lower radiator hoses
and radiator cap ..

You should be good to go after that.

soo yea what ^ just said to change..have got those changed over the 2 yrs I've had my car so far and..

hmm maybe someone can help me....i got my timing belt done few weeks ago and since then while in gear (i have n automatic) either at idle (cars seems to misfire) or more so "stop-go" there's a slight and then on occasion a drawn out hesitation in throttle response. feels more like n ignition problem but when the cars fully warmed up i just have poor throttle response.

-i have a short ram intake for what it's worth..and a code sporadically comes up (check engine light turns on-overdrive light flashes) neutral safety switch

anybody have any insight to my problem i'd be more then grateful!

Have you already checked for intake filter leaks and disconnected wires? Even a sparkplug boot that is on loose will cause those issues.

any check lights? I had simliar iginition issues in my car after my timing belt was replaced and it turned out that the cam shaft position sensor was bad. replaced and now it runs great.

Change the cam seals too...pop off the cam sprockets, and bam there they are...there's a guy on ebay that sells a complete kit with all seals, belts, water pump...BTW at 105,000 miles the original belt on my 1.6 99 looked GREAT...mazda uses good quality stuff
