Hey guys,
For the last few weeks, my '99 LX with auto tran. has been shifting very strangely, but only between 2nd and 3rd gear. When it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, there is an increase in RPM of about 500-1,000, and a delay of about 1 second.

Does anyone know what the technical name/cause of the problem is?
How can it be fixed?
What are the dangers/risks of being lazy when it comes to getting this corrected?

Thanks a lot; I appreciate your help.

By the way... I have made no engine / performance mods. Thanks.

I dont know what the technical name for that is but I had a similar problem on my 1997 Nissan Maxima Auto, and not only between 2nd and 3rd gears. Pretty much all 4 gears were messed up. Each Gear kept revving until i let go of the gas, only then it switched to next gear. Thats the delayed timing I think. Tranny was blown. Thats when I just bought the car with 32k miles also (happened 2 months after purchase) thats what usually happens when you manually switch from gear to gear on auto tranny. So I got the tranny replaced by dealer under waranty. Do you still have the original waranty on? If so they should change the tranny for free.
