(hand) I am changing the oil on my 03 es, i am switching to synthetic, Royal Purple 10w30, all goes well. I fill the crankcase and put all 4 quarts in and then realize, oh shit! it doesnt hold 4 quarts. So i thought for a minute or two do i leave it in or do i take some out? I took some out now the oil level is just a bit above full. Would i have caused a problem if i had let the four quarts in? If i remember correctly overfilling the pan can lead to foaming of the oil and breakdown of the oil alot quicker, does that hold true with syn. On a side note does know the part number for the mazda v6 oil filter, i went with the puny es filter this time

that little overage wouldn't be a problem....after adding the oil did you crank the car to let it fill the filter BEFORE checking the oil level?? If so, and you were a little over then you're ok....I'd get nervous at 1qt or higher, but .5qt can easily be dropped without a hassle.

well, on the FS its kinda hard to fill the oil filter... its not hanging vertically.. most of the oil drains right back out, but turning it over will kinda re-fill the oil passages and the little bit into the filter. so the logic is sound,
