Was having problems with shifting for quite some time, it got worse and worse with time...Then I took it in for regular checkup 2 weeks ago and they agreed synchros were off.
So I drove the thing while they got the parts, slowly but surely it got worse and worse...3rd was scratching (what I think was gears) over and over and over again, sometimes it wouldnt even go in, well last night it wouldt go in so I shoved it in....Bam come off the clutch and no power in the gear...No gears at all, 2nd was in 4th, and one other one somewhere else...I swear to god if they try to blame this on my I will snap! Fucking tranny has been a no good piece of crap since I got the car.
That and they said I have to wait 2 days for a loaner...thats bull crap....shouldnt they have a loaner for me right now?

Join the crowd bro. Thats the exact same shit that happened to my first tranny. Our tranny's blow. Mazda is stupid and will continue to make em, and even put them in the Mazdaspeed which is a bad fucking idea. Maybe they will lose enough money and wise up and make a better tranny.

Hey NC or anyone else who has had this problem
Did mazda replace the tranny of just try and rebuild/work on it? I think theyre gonna try and do that and i want a whole new one if this one didnt work its only gonna break again!

Just wanted to know a bit more about how your shifter had gotten worse and worse over time. Mine feels very notchy at the moment, hard to shift from 1-2 once in a while (I am a very casual driver) ... not sure if that is the way it was built to feel. Did you modify it in any way? I don't want to have a surprise on the road with my transmission if it needs some attention to some unseen problems at the moment.
They should give you a loaner vehicle if the repair is going to take more than 2 hours to fix. Now I am not sure if WAITING for the delivery of parts is consider part of the agreement, but as far as the actual beginning of repair... they should support you with a rental or loaner car while your car is in their hands.

Just so you guys know this problem is only happening in the MP3 which has the G5M-R tranny where as all other 2.0L use a G15M-R tranny. I haven't heard any ES or P5 owners complain about his. I have a F25M-R tranny and people say its weaker but it seems stronger than most right now.

I have a ES and my tranny is givin me problems sometimes, sometimes it is hard to get from first to second(not terribly hard but noticeable) and then when i am accelerating in second gear it makes a clicking noise that I can only hear if I am near another object and the sound reflects off of it...but I did wreck my car in december($10,000 damage :( so that could be part of it...who knows

Damn man...all this tranny sh1t is really getting me worried. Sorry to hear about your problems, kurt. :-(
Try to push a recall on our trannies or something.
I too notice some difficulty in 1st to second...kurt, what were your first symptoms?

How about aftermarket trannies? Are there any out there that will just bolt up?

I had problems a while ago with 1st to 2nd, then that fixed itself a little (not perfect but improved) and when that happened 2nd to 3rd was a mess, slowly getting notchy and hard to shift into...then it seemed like i was getting blocked about half way into 3rd and id have to give it another nudge - that started 2 months ago...then a week ago i started hearing it catching the gear every time i went into 3rd, even granny shifting - and my car is bone stock in the engine dept...nothing done under the hood...Im at 32,000 Kilometers (sorry guys youll have to do the conversion to miles)...So beware because mine started innocently as sticky shifter then got worse and worse and worse...and now BLAM!

Damn, that's only approximately 20K miles .... :(
Hmm... dunno what to do, oh well ... guess I'll just have to wait untill the tranny falls apart.
Sometimes I have to pull from reverse to neutral and forcefully back to reverse for the gear to go in properly
(when it's not in all I hear is an unhealtyh scratchy sound :( )

My tranny went out causing me other problems that my dealer refuses to warrenty because they say I "abused" the car but they repaired the tranny...Do you think Mazda knows they have some shitty tranny's? I know they do! If they didn't they would have told me to buy the new tranny parts as well.
We really need to start a petition for a tranny recall. Anyone know how to start one?

That's kind of standard in a lot of cars...not abnormal.

well i found out that the problem is that they spaced the syncros too far from the gears... but im not 100% sure on that...

i have meet 3 people that work at mazda... they reluctantly admitted to the transmission problem.... and the mazda rep that drove my car avoided facts when i was bashing him , mazda, the dealership, and the tranny
i was pissed... and he drove my car like a grandma so it wouldnt grind... and he said there is no problem with the transmission.. but the mazda tech drove my car and he said my 2nd 3rd and 5th gear syncros were bad...
if the reps would stop pushing pens all f*ing day maybe they would realize what is wrong and get it fixed... at this point im never going to buy a mazda again.. the service sucks and they wont fix cars that only partly work....

I am with ya 110% on that man! SERVICE SUCKS ASS!!!! I hate the fact that it takes 30 Fu*@ING Minutes to talk to a service rep! But a sales rep walks up to you as soon as you get out of your car, even if all you want to do is stretch your legs.
I've had great service at my dealership. No complaints here.

I know what youre saying, service at my dealership sucks ass. I have those blue lights on my washer nossles ya know and also neons in my grill and headlights, and i took it in to get serviced and they completely had no regard for my parts...the ripped the wire completely out of my nossle light, and broke a neon somehow, i didnt notice till the next day so i cant do anything. :(

ok gentlemen, i've just read the posts, now I'm freaking out cause I think my tranny is going to go soon. What can we do? Are they any good tranny's we can get? Should I replace it now? How about changing something? HELP! =)
That's interesting. Well, I am no expert, BUT... If you car is stock and your dealer can't prove that you "abused" the car, whatever that means, then I don't think your dealer can refuse to warranty... Hell, even if you autoxed all day, it would still be difficult for mazda to prove abuse. Call up Mazda HQ and raise hell.

That's exactly what mine does.... a good trick is put in first move the car a bit and then go into reverse.. but make sure oyu are stopped... not rolling or moving at all...
Dealership said this is normal... for what a POS tranny maybe...

Ok well like verythign else nothing is perfect. I noticed that the more I bitched the less i got somewhere with the dealerships. I am up to dealer #3 right now and I am pushing my luck right now... as the 4th one is pretty far away... I get good service the first couple times and then boom.. all to waist...
I have complained hours on end to Mazda Canada, the dealerships the owners of the dealerships, even the product manager for Canada... I lost his damn e-mail some how... but whatever... nothing happened... I even put up links to this board regarding the clunking noise... the tranny everything.. nothing happens until the people in Japan notice a problem and that's it....
I waited 4 months for my car... I got it and at 9 000 kms my shifter fork broke at least they told me the truth on that one but they blamed me for it... waited 4 weeks for my car to get fixed... 4 days to get a loaner... cost mazda over $2000 to fix this... now you think something like that would make them realize of the problem... NOPE....
We are a small crowed in the Mazda community... I mean 1750 cars or something.... Mazda dont' care about that... we are like 10% of sales or something.... not even... I have learned to live with it.. I have warranty for another 4 years... I will worry about it when I got no warranty left....

With Mazda claiming sh!t like "abuse" it is like we have no warrenty from the beggining. They can just claim "abuse" and get away with just about anything. Thats what freaks me out about my situation...If they claim "abuse" then why in the hell are they fixing my transmission? Don't try and tell me that they are wanting to give me a break, we all know that aint true.
It just befuddles(sp?) me.

I was just like to say I also just blew my transmission this week. I threw it into third and BOOM. Now I have to wait three weeks for the new one to get shipped from japan but its cool. I am gonna put the new flywheel, clutch and short shifter on it. I heard that by upgrading your tanny oil will help out the tranny. I think it was redline tranny oil but not sure. I hope mazda gets there head out of there ass and fixes this problem. I only have 17,000 miles on my car.

mazda knows there are major problems with the transmission... they are probably going to keep it very hush hush. if the press or the other general public found out about this it could possibly ruin mazda's streak..
