Conditions:
Temp: 40 F (from weather.com)
Humidity: 50% (from weather.com)
Pressure: 30.21 (from weather.com)
Wind: Very slight breeze (from weather.com)
Elevation: 12 feet above sea level (from my GPS)
Road: Completely flat, straight, smooth pavement

Car Info:
2003.5 MSP
Flashed ECU
Injen CAI
Stock boost

Took a total of 5 runs. Launched only hard enough to get the unit to start measuring. Shifted to 2nd very early. Set the unit to measure HP from 40-60MPH. Shifted into 3rd at redline (62mph), then slowed to a stop.

Results: The speed is the point where the max HP occured for that run.

HP MPH
172 54
170 57
161 55
174 57
168 54

Throwing out the best and worst runs, and averaging the remaining three runs gives:

Peak HP: 170
MPH: 55

This is the measured HP after all losses (drivetrain, rolling resistance, air resistance/drag, etc).

Thoughts/comments/suggestions?

I'm unclear on what the MPH is for...is that the speed at which peak power was achieved?

Yes...the unit has no way of knowing your RPM, but it does know your current speed.

How much is that unit? Is it that much cheaper than the G-Tech, because the G-Tech can tell you RPM's.

I'm looking into getting one of these types of instruments, my cousin has the G-Tech Pro Competition and I love it, but I want to research other, cheaper options.

Got it for $160 after a $40 rebate...the G-Tech Comp Pro goes for $250 right?

I love the GTech

What are you using for weight, Joisey? (drinks)

The 9.7 sec @ 66 mph seems way off. That trap is too low for that time, and for an MSP for that matter.

3000 pounds. The exact same conditions (1/4 tank of gas, myself, and the same amount of junk in the trunk) weighed 3005 pounds on the scale at the track

I'd guess because I let off the throttle right after passing 60 and when I do the car bucks, so the GTech sensor dealies probably get fooled. I seem to get funky numbers when I make abbreviated runs, so I'd guess that's most likely.

When the weather improves I'll make more runs and get some better results. I want to run the same road in both directions on the same day to try and eliminate variables like wind and the fact that there are no perfectly flat roads around here.

The MSP will be going to the track this spring too, to test it and also to test the GTech. I know a couple guys who have taken their GTech to the track and found it to be dead on their time slip.

Yes, I took the Vector FX2 to the track and it was within 0.1 second for 4 out of the 5 runs.

Looks good Justin....sounds about right to me. Did you consider doing a run w/ the stock air box back on to get a comparison? That's my plan when the weather is better & I have new treads on my rims.

so it was a wheel hp right? 170 @ 55mph looks a little too much for just a cai and a stock boost...
where can you get one of those nifty Vector FX2 things?
i'd really love to measure what hp did my turboback w/cai gave me on a stock boost....
thanx

Hey, has anyone figured out how G-tech competition figures out your RPM? WEIRD! (omg)

Reads the voltage coming out of your alternator. You calibrate it by revving the engine to a couple specific points and holding there. If you do a half decent job, its very accurate- mine is dead on stock. Shift lights work nicely.

Well for some reason stock boost on my car is almost 8psi..I guess I got lucky :)

You can get the FX2 at Circuit City.

I got some strange #'s today... Using the same NHRA conversion that yielded a 13.97 @ 101 running 11psi a couple weeks ago, I got a 14.3 @ 92.83 running stock boost (6psi). Either I can do a much better ET at 11psi, or I had a very good run today at 6. 60ft on the run today was 2.1 unconverted and at 5500ft.

Mine runs just a hair over 7. Go figure.
