View Full Version : Strange noise from front of engine

I have a strange noise coming from the front of the engine. I'm not sure if I never paid attention before or if it just appeared. It sounds like it is right behind the heatshield and sounds like a metal echo. I checked the exhaust manifold heatshield and all the bolts are tight. Obviously the car is at idle.
Anyone else have this problem?

I'm not sure how to describe it. I don't know if it is a knock, a ping or anything else.
I can just describe it like a metal echo that I hear about every 2 seconds. It sounds like it is coming from right behind the exhaust manifold heatshield.
I was thinking detonation, but honestly I don't know what that sounds like. I don't have a boost controller so the boost has been factory since I bought it.
Could someone describe detonation to me?
Thanks!!!

probably the same noice you hear when you shut your car down after a good trip. Sounds like someones throwing beebes at the exh. mani. Don't know what it is though

That sound that you hear when you shut the car off after a trip is the metal cooling down. Most cars will make that sound.

Sounds like the wastegate is rattling, I've had a MSP with that problem before.

Ahh yes, I agree with this statement. Is it with your car running or off? Just read that it is with your car at idle, but I guess it still could be the metal cooling down.
You wouldn't hear ping/knock/detonation at idle so don't worry about that.
Anyway, not a big deal, I think you are safe.
