Sweet! What did you do exactly? How did you get that look?

Start by removing the grill and then take the bumper off. Next you have to take the headlights out and break the seals on them. Take apart the housing and the trim piece comes off with two screws. Paint it black with barbeque paint and put it all back together with a shit load of marine glue. Took about 4 hours but the b4 and after is so much different...

Here is a before and after that I found on a Japanese site.
Before (http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/1fa42c7b/bc/Japanese+pics/Heads1.jpg?bcqBIO9Ad2fa3WQf)
After (http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/1fa42c7b/bc/Japanese+pics/Heads2.jpg?bcqBIO9A.Ab4Hwxs)
I like the after. I almost wonder why it didnt come stock.

Check out all the other pics I found. There is a thread for them in the P5 forum. I don't have the Japanese text decoder so I couldn't read anything. If I had it I'd join their site. They have lots of meets!

I wonder if anyone has imported the JDM version of the headlights...they look like double reflectors and fairly nasty (in a good way, of course.)

I knew it would look good. Looks a little like factory MP3 headlamps on a P5, just better.

I think that would look good on my Black P5?? Also, how'd you get the emblem painted?? What kind of application?? I want to do something different with the front grill area, I am thinking no Mazda symbol at all and keeping the Honeycomb grill. I wonder if I could order one?? If anyone knows~~ Let me in!! Plus, i want to get rid of the protege markers in the back, but I know they are not adhesive. Anyone have any suggestions.
BTW, BDF02PR5, your car looks sweet. I kinda tend to not like hood pins, but it looks ok. But overall, I want to go with a similar look. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks you for all the comments and compliments. I have not painted my rear emblems yet but paln on doing so very soon. I am getting the JDM badge for the back to go with the Sport20 decals I have for the side. If you want to do the headlights, I say GO FOR IT!!! it makes the car look so much more aggressive and dont be worried about the night time light output, it is just the same. The reflectors surround the rear part of the light. If you want a step by step on how to paint the lights, give me a call, I would love to help anybody out.

Racer 5....have you checked out the autoexe stuff out...you could go with that to get rid of the Mazda emblem...

I've been wanting to do this for a while too. I knew there'd be quite a process, but it involves removing the front bumper?? Perhaps it just sounds more intense than it really is. A step-by-step would be very helpful. Anyone, please email me or contact me on AIM so we can talk about this awesome custom idea!!

Yes, with that DIY and my laptop upon my engine, I was able to paint my headlights. Very excellent writeup, even though I was very weary of baking my headlights. They smell like brownies now though.:D

I kinda skimmed the thread, so forgive me if I'm repeating someone elses comments.
Someone mentioned that those headlights should come stock. I believe canadian p5's do come with them like that, from the factory. Mine did.

Lovin the blackouts! GhostP5 - Lovin the white ride man, looks really clean! Mine is yellow and I'm thinking my housings would look good black, too. I did this mod to my Civic and they look good, but what kind of sealant is used by the manufacturer? The Civics have a thick, almost caulking-like sealant that you can use over.

Canadian 2002, 2002.5 get chrome housings.
Canadian 2003 P5's get black housings.
U.S. 2002, 2002.5, and 2003 P5's get chrome.

here is my stock 2003 p5 headlight housing:

Have any of you guys thought of importing the housings from canada, to save having to worry about re-sealing? I'm not even sure what the price tag is on them.

I considered buying em from Canada, or even searching some Canadian junk dealers online. But I'm looking for a more satin/flat finish on mine. It looks like the Canadian P5 headlight housings are simply moulded in black plastic... not painted. Correct me if I am mistaken?

Canadian headlights are about $325 US each. Much cheaper to do it yourself. If you bake them after putting them back together, they will seal correctly.

Trying mashing them together really good after baking while they are warm. Maybe extra silacone will help. Make sure you get clear.

you can bake it, but I use a heat gun instead. we couldn't find an oven avail. at the time. 20 bucks for sandpaper/paint/glue from wal-mart is all you need.
