hey i mentioned this before that i had squealing brakes and i thought it was the brake pads so i had that checked.... turns out its not that.... but the mechanic says its brake dust on the rear drum brakes thats causing the sound but i'm not sure about that since i thought its front wheel drive so brakes should be in the front... anyway it makes a squealing noise during slow stops or light braking... any idea what it might be and how to fix it?

Its a Protege 2002 LX... all stock

Thx

How many miles on the car. A 2002 could very easily need some breaks on the front (specially if you brake alot, in town and stuff). there are squealer pads on the brakes. when they are getting bad the metal tabs will rub on the brake disk and make a squeal to let you know you need to change the breaks.

heh nope... theres 32,000 miles on it approximately but i know the brake pads are ok since i got them checked already...

if you checked your brakes
and the mechanic said it was ok
then it is some dust/rust on the brakes
and with some wear it should rub off
hope that helps
