I don't have a mazda 3 yet, but I'm really considering getting one soon. I'm just wondering if u can change the stock deck to an aftermarket one. If you can change the deck, where can I buy a bracket that would fit in the dash? The stock deck is rather large.
I want to change deck cause it doesn't play mp3's and I know you can get a stock deck that does play mp3's but, its like an extra $600 bucks. I already have a deck that play's mp3's in my 89 legend now.
This is my first post here, so please be nice. I tried using the search button, but found no info on this. If someone could help, please reply. TIA
Phu.

spend the 600 bucks ...over say 5 years its only about 11 bucks per month extra.........save the headace
That's what I hate with integrated radio on newer cars. I still love the aftermarket decks.

Anyone else notice that with the stock deck (no mp3, no 6 disc) that if you play a CD on random and want to skip to the next track it turns off random and just goes to the next track instead of the next random track.
Think this can be fixed with a software upgrade to the stereo? It is really anoying.

wiring harness and dash kits now available go to this web site they have the wiring harness I have bought one for my car (mazda3 5 door) and the dash kit as well. I don't work for them but I have bought many audio products from them my most recent purchase was a pair of Kenwood headrest monitors. I think they also do free shipping on some of the preorders dash kits

I've considered FM modulation personally (using an MP3 compatible FM-modulated changer.) Sound quality may suffer, but in FM changers I've used before, it's not noticeable. I have a related question: do stock decks have RCA-outputs, or do you have to struggle with installing an aftermarket deck for amp installation too?

After market deck like I have?

and a wiring diagram like this?
TOP
White/Black left front +
Gray/Black left front
White/Red right front +
Gray/Red right front
White/Purple left rear +
Gray/White left rear
White rear right +
Gray rear right
BOTTOM
Orange/Black 12v constant
Orange/Black with silver dots 12v illumination
Yellow with silver dots 12v ignition
Black/Green Chassis ground
There is 2 more wires in the bunch. One is the 12v ignition for the antenna and the other is a cell phone mute. I didnt get the colors as they dont get used unless using aftermarket deck. The antenna ignition wire is next to the 12v illumination wire.

I dont think you were able to fully comprehend the post.. It is not my instal I just pasted the diagram and a link.
Regardless of how good vavooms instal was the important thing here was the wire diagram he provided and i pasted...perhaps making a positive contribution instead of honking your horn would make you seem like less of an ass.
And if you are referring to my stuff please tell me whats sloppy about it..lol

True I dont have some big enclosure to hide the wiring and what not.Nor do I have fluorescent wiring and paint everywhere you look under the hood.. Then again I dont want all that and I am not interested in winning the Little Tijuana car show sound competition.
Im sure your parents are really proud of the work they had done on your car back in 98. After all you did win the school car show.. (cryhard) . To each their own i suppose.

This is coming from a guy with a riced-out Dodge Stratus. No need to hate on his setup, doesn't look bad to me.
Reminds me of that Will Farrel SNL skit...
"I drive a Dodge Stratus! I can to 50 push-ups in 20 minutes!"
If you havn't seen that skit get the best of Will Farrel Volume I. Good stuff.
p.s. - I'm just messing with you on the Stratus comment.
