View Full Version : Question about downpipes

This might sound like a stupid question but I was wondering "What part is actually the downpipe?" The reason I ask this is because Corksport shows a short pipe that is coming directly off of the turbo and looks to mount up to the part that Apex and Protosport are calling their downpipe. Both of these parts are referred to as downpipes on their company’s respective websites. Which part makes a larger whp gain? Also, is the pipe that Apex and Protosport are selling the middle piece between the turbo and the muffler? Thanks.

A true downpipe will be the immediate discharge housing. In other words the inlet of the turbo and then the outlet. (in lamens terms) the outlet peice whether it be a cast housing that incorporates your Wastegate flapper or just a bolted flange with exhaust pipe.

the pipe that Apex/prosport and any one els is selling they call it dp, that will give you most gains since it gets rid of the cats, geting the dp and catback will give you most gains

yeah what corksport shows IS the downpipe, though most of us here refer to it as the "s-pipe" for obvious reasons. technically, what apex and protosport are selling is a midpipe, but most of us just call it a downpipe just cause. and fyi, ion's turboback replaces both the stock midpipe and downpipe. when i have my downpipe made, it will be a true downpipe, plus the midpipe section with 1 hiflow cat.
btw hukster, who's that in your avatar? she's really cute :D. looks like ayumi hamasaki.

Thanks. That makes perfect sense. When I was looking at it I thought the Apex pipe was actually the midpipe. Does anyone know what kind of whp to expect out of the Apex with highflow cat. Just curious.

I've heard 5-7 WHP but I don't think anyone has dynoed it yet.
The one without a cat nets you 10-12HP.

I wish they would just show us pics and more info on their products. I don't get the whole thing with having to contact them about everything. It just makes things hadere to go about getting what you want.
