Well this is great. Today i was driving through my neighborhood to my friends house. I was going about 25-30 around a easy curve, nothing sharp. I started to brake for a stop sighn when My msp all of a sudden loses traction in the back wheels and fishtails around to the left and i go right into a ditch and flip on the side. Luckily my car was resting against the stop sign and didnt totally flip. The whole driver side of my car is messed up and front is messed up too. I was luckily fine. How do u guys think this happend? I mean our cars are meant for turning. It is really cold here, in the 30s but there was no ice.

summer tires + cold pavement = no traction

btw, this sounds so much like dexter's post whenever he rolled his car i actually had to check to see who posted it :)

except he was going fastAr i think

That sucks! I'm still waiting to get my car out of the shop. It's been there for 2 1/2 months! Good luck. Might be better if your ins. totals it.

in my opinion braking through a turn = death

braking before the turn = win

but there were probably plenty of factors involved. were the tires cold? any moisture? yeah shrug there could be plenty of things

sounds like my accident, except i lost traction in the leaves

i was wondering when my car started to spin it felt like the back wheel brakes locked up, could that have happend. I just had the car in the shop to get the rotors changed out for the rusting.

it's funny how everyone want to get more power, but can barely drive the car stock. You don't brake during a sharp turn. Brake before the turn. During the turn, use the throttle and gears and hope the car can handle. Somepeople need to invest in driving school instead of power mods.

dude what the hell are you talking about. i havent said anything about getting mods, i like my car how it is. and if u read the damn thread u would know that it wasnt a sharp turn. i said it was a easy curve nothing sharp.

did mention your name? did I quote you? then calm down!
sharp or not, braking caused you to lose whatever little traction you had. The tires in our cars do not perform well in cold weather. Maybe it was not your fault at all. Maybe there was oil in the road. I don't know, but one thing I do know, when I take a sharp turn I don't brake in the middle of it.

haha why are u posting in this thread if ur not talking about the topic. i dont care if u brake before sharp turns, great, that wasnt the topic so dont waste ur time typing it.

and braking at 30 mph shouldnt cause u to lose control of the car, when ur not even turning the wheel sharp.

so what's the point of your thread?

i think the point is if you crash your msp then you have to downgrade to a ford aspire.

whats the point of your attitude? he wrecked his car, get off of his ass. jesus. if your comment had nothing to do with him, dont post it in this thread. "new thread" buttons appear for a reason.

the point of my thread was to ask anyone how this could happen. going around a curve, not turn, at 30 should not spin out ur car. i wanted to know if anyone has some advice on how it could happen.

dont let it bother you. the msp section is full of asses. try posting in the "performance", "appearance", etc topics found on the main page and not in here. you'll get a lot better, more informative, less arrogant replies...

i would have to agree with everyone here. i guess "driver error" isnt the answer you are looking for since we effectivley say you are the sole person at fault. but hey, thats life. i dont think theres a scapegoat to blame like faulty suspension or anything, sorry.

maybe you hit a really small patch of ice(or leaves) with a rear tire and started to slide. that combined with the abs system might have locked up the rear tires and caused you to spin out(dunno)

you got your answers. sticky summer performance tires on cold pavement. since there were no other parties involved you may have guessed it wasn't completly the cars fault so yeah people are going to say you were the reasoning behind your car spinning out.

bad deal for sure but good luck getting it back and fixed up. let us know how things do or do not turn out

sucks dude, hate to hear it. this sounds like all 3 times i slid and bent my steel wheels..then again it was snowing..all three times...and i was neck deep on the e-brake..so..actually..it doesn't sound like it at all..

If you were really going that slowly and it wasn't a sharp curve then it is odd that you spun out.........

But as was already said - braking and turning at the same time in the MSP will swing out the back end very easily. I found that out myself on the Auto-X track....just glad it was there instead of on the street. I recommend you go to at least 1 autoX

Was it damp (but not wet) outside? - if so maybe your brakes grabbed a little harder from a gentle push than usual....

me thinks the rear sway bar had something to do with this accident

The MSP has pretty neutral handling (which is good). But more than once I got some oversteer when taking a corner really hard.

A lot of people don't know how to control oversteer, so if you were going faster than you say, this might be the reason you lost control.

I think it's the tires though...the stock Potenza's (summer tires) harden up in low temperatures, giving you hardly any traction, even in the dry. It's a HUGE difference between cold and warm temps with the stock tires. You really need winter tires on this car if the temperature ever gets below 40 degrees by you...even if it doesn't snow at all.

that was your error, not the msp. a good craftsman doesn't blame his tools does he?(crappy analogy lol) also are you 100% sure it was not a sharp turn or you were only going 25 mph, something doesn't add up.

I already gave it to you. Get better tires and do not apply the brakes during a turn. Please accept my apologies. It is just that some kids (not you) want all this crazy HP and don't even know how to drive a car and all they do is cause accidents and kill themselves and other people. I am sorry I am getting off the subject again. I am sorry about your accident, but be glad everyone is OK. The car can always be replaced. Human lives are not replaceable.
