I have decided to go with turbo because I don't see how n/a can keep up. Ok, so I also like the sound of really loud blow off valves. Just nervous about spending the 4k.

The thing is I want to know what people who have made the upgrade think about the brand turbo they are using. I have looked in the posts and don't see much where people give their opinions about the turbo they have so I can compare them a little. Is the boost worth the 4k? Please tell me what turbo setup you are running and why you chose it.

Thanks,
Booze

wagnerturbo at 6psi- Was enough power for me. He was close enough for me to drive to and have him install it. Good prices.

Ck out wagnermotorsports.net

MPI has ben great to me. Worth every penny to be able to feel the power that this car should of had from the beginning.

And to round out the list Flyin' Protege (www.flyinprotege.com)...

They have an upgraded recirculating valve that is nice and noticeable...

I have it and enjoy it daily.:D

So far it looks HiBoost may be the best route for me. From what people say the manifold is strong and I really like the fact that it's so easy to install.

I checked out your domain page and that is a very nice turbo, I don't have access to that kind of stuff though.

Does anyone know how much boost HiBoost is running, I must have overlooked it.

Thanks,
Booze

wagner all the way. best kit out there in my opinion, that is if you want to stay on stock internals..if you don't want to, (which is HIGHLY recommended) get the hi-boost kit. Hey, since your going boost, you should swap ecu's with a P5/Sedan.

^^^ YP5 Toronto is running it as we type. Ask him. he has become the poster child of Hi-Boost. I want to see it this summer!!

I have a guy that will get me an ecu from the mazdaspeed, is that good? I don't know much about how all the computer stuff works.

(Just found out I get a tax refund!!! Will be getting an ACT clutch to go with the Indigo Speed flywheel that has been sitting under my bed forever.)

Has anyone seen a dyno for the waggner turbo?

Flyin' Protege has one hell of a manifold as well.

The ECU for the MSP...? There must be a better way. With the Flash thing that many people are having problems with and the fuel cut etc... Later...Brian

What's wrong with just keeping the one on the MP3?

Nothing. It's solid. Use an EIC-2 to add the fuel. I have had one for a year. It to is solid!! Info and link on the www link below...

Look for "Extra Injector Controler"

The advanced ignition timing can cause knock depending on boost and octane...Other than that it's fine.

There are allot of different kits out there for the mazda protege..

Depends on how much you wanna spend...But with a turbo kit...comes allot of other problems..wich need to be taken into account..

First Upgraded Clutch...The stock clutch sucks dick...mines been slipping since the day i installed my turbo kit!

2nd...You have an MP3...And there is lots of problems with turboing the MP3..Since the timing is advance..it will cause detonation..at low boost levels..

So if you are plannin on boosting..I must suggest..that you do more research..on what you want to do!

I personally have a custom turbo kit..I have incorporated Modern Peformace & Flyin Protege's turbo manifold...as well as Modern Perforamce's Piggy Back...Large t3 turbo...Custom CAI...Custom 2.5" downpipe...And am planning to upgrade w/ a air to air..intercooler within couple of months..

My suggestion to u..is Which ever route you take..Do not isntall your turbo kit..before you find out what type of Engine Management you want!

G/L
Chas

P.S. DO NOT TRADE ECU'S W/ A P5 ECU..YOU WILL GET A CHECK ENGINE LIGH/MIL! AND IF YOU GO TO INSPECTION..YOU WILL FAIL..ALSO...STAY AWAY FROM THE MAZDA SPEED ECU..THEY HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS IT'S NOT WORTH IT!

It depends on octane level of the gas you run. It might cause knock.

If you have 93 octane available and run 5-6 psi, you should be just fine. However, with 91 octane it is hit or miss. I know, I have run both.

I just recently found a place here near my house that has 93.5 octane for $1.59 a gallon. Most big chains are charging over a $1.64 for 91. I filled up on the first tank yesterday and my car is so happy.

Sidenote: 91 octane is the highest you can find in Colorado, with the exception of the "race gas" stores. So, finding 93.5 for cheaper than the big chains sell 91 is a great!

I never figured a change from 91 to 93.5 would make such a huge difference, but there was dramatic change in how my car is running.

I also did a couple of on-boost WOT runs over 5000 RPM (where I usually heard knock start) and the car felt fine and I did not hear the noticeable metal pop-corn sound at all.

It might be a combination of the cooler temps around here along with the gas, but it ran fine. There might have still been some pinging, but I couldn't hear it.

With my MP3, it was ver noticeable at 5000 rpm, that is where the advanced ignition timing kicked in.

Well I am installing an ACT clutch and Indigo speed flywheel so that should take care of that problem. As for gas I think all I can get is 91, which is what I have always run.

The HiBoost kit runs 8psi out of the box and I won't be going any higher than that. (I don't have the kit yet, but so far this one seems best for me.)

SuttersC what turbo are you running? Does anyone here have a turbo on an MP3 and can they tell me what they did for the engine management? Just need some ideas.

Thanks

i did a pro5 ecu swap. if you dont want to do a swap get the J&S safeguard. little beavis is trying to get a GB going.

oh yeah if you wanna do a pro5 ecu swap, you will get the CEL. right now i am gonna try a fix for it.

I have a turbo but at 6psi, so right now no management system, but I may upgrade to one, wagner motorsports is working on one I think

I have an MP3 and have the MPI piggyback installed. I can advance and retard timing wherever I want. Advance a little at low RPM's and retard at higher RPM's.

So Big Tim are you saying that it doesn't knock? How much boost are you running?

I haven't heard any knock yet. I am at 8PSI and running good. I have 4 degree's retard at WOT.
