No more Z919 from Mazda

My car was broken into and all my stuff stolen a couple weeks ago. I was given a Z828 as my replacement from Mazda for my Z919. Is this what I should get? Did some MP3s come with the Z828?

The Z919 came in the blue MP3s. The Z828 came in the yellow ones. It is suppose to be better because it has a detachable face, but I would request the Mazdaspeed radio. It shouldn't matter which one you get. But you should be able to choose if they are out of the Z919

Umm not really....all MP3s here in Canada ( which are all blue ) came with Z828s ;)

Some blue mp3 in the states also got z828.. its seems to be a totally random thing. My dealer swaped out my z919 for the z828. I like the 828 much better. Mostly, because it has a detachable face, and can fast foward through mp3's.

be happy you lost your 919. the 828 graphic are cooler as well.

the 919 has a guy revving up the tach, shifting through the gears, the car going through a tunnel, and the tires spinning....it also has an underwater dolphin bubble thing, and a casino jackpot lottery thing.....those are cool! What does the 828 that is better than that??

matty the MSP have a MP-919, the mp3 had a Z919. they are different.

you can change what movie thing pops up.....what were the difference in the graphics between the two? I've seen the exact same unit that was in my MSP on Ebay for$100shipped. I'm going to buy one, just wanted to see if the mP3 version was cooler.

the mp3 z828 is cooler than the mp3 z919. better graphics features and detachable face. the Z919 faceplate is always on, and it doesnt flip over or anything. Theft magnet.

the mp-919 that come with the MSP is better then both listed above. It has much cooler feautures then both. although many have had problems with them.

I had a lot of trouble with my z919 thats why they replaced mine.

My MP3 Z919 got stolen, thats why I like the Z828 detachable face. Does the MSP 919 have a detachable face?

yes.. it also has a camilien(sp) mode where it flips backwards and is all black.

The MP-919 is a bit cooler, the faceplates automatically rotates backwards, to make it hard to tell that it is there at all. So you can remove the faceplate if you want, or let it rotate back.
I used to remove my faceplate on my 828 quite often, and eventually the contacts got oxidizes. That was around the same time I sold it. :D

I have no clue why they made some mp3 828 and other 919.. kennwood must have had some spares laying around that they wanted to get rid of.

the units that came in the MPS were all factory refurbs....helped mazda keep the cost down.

EDIT....everything kenwood in the MSP was a factory refurb...speakers, amp, subs, headunits, etc..

Boozenbar-I'll trade you my x959. My car got popped a year ago and the insurance Co gave me the latest, at that time, instead of going to the dealer. I liked the z828 myself, because it wasn't black. The x959 is sirus ready and the face detaches.

Uhh, that may mean your voltage is dropping. Did you do something foolish like put 1000 watts of audio and not change the alternator?

If you're that rough with those buttons I'm glad I'm not your man-whore. But back on topic, Mazda should warranty that, and hopefully give you a Z828. :D

It's hard to say, but if they see it happen, they will warranty it. Head unit is even cheaper than I thought, since I now know they give us refurbs.

mp3girly, One day mine started scratching my CD's anytime I hit a bump.. I went in and they took my word for it and replaced it.

I didn't realize the MP3 radios were random.

THe Z919 was an americanized version of a japenese unit, hence no detachable face and a different mounting setup. The Z828 was its replacement here in the states and was by all acounts a better unit.

Hmm, well since my 828 was installed the other week I have an odd new problem.

I have an ichibahn cigarett lighter (for looks) it has a metal end instead of plastic. I never use it.

The other day the fuse to the radio blew. I was driving along and noticed a finger print on my lighter so I pulled it out to clean it. To my surprise the radio turned on!! (Remember the fuse is still blown.) When I put the lighter back in the radio turned off. I am not pushing it in to light it just placing it back in the spot. I wiggled it a little and on comes the radio. NOW if I touch the lighter or hit a bump the radio cuts off then back on. (The fuse is still blown!!!)

So :wtf: is going on with this?? Any ideas on how I fix it?

My Z919's buttons are fuckin up like the volume button sticks down or up when you go over traini tracks and it goes full volume or turns it off. plus the first 3 buttons also are like broken. I have a full coverage warrenty would mazda take it back and put a new one in?

The reason that the MP3's have two different radios are as follows. They originally Started making them with the Z919 Kenwood discontinued this model, Mazda finished the run with the Z828. This is why most would have been in the yellow MP3's because they where painted near the end of the MP3 run. I say would have been in The yellow ones. Because when The cars where shipped to North America, A lot MP3's were at the docks in Canada When someone broke in and stole all the radio's. Mazda had to replace them with the Z828's. This is why It seems random. This is why all the ones in Canada have the Z828. But some blue ones in the states have Z828's too, either from the docks in Canada or when they switched out the discontinued model.

Something is shorting out or is not connected correctly. Remove the fuse that is blown and see if anything that is hooked trhough it still works.

Ok this is messed up. If I take out the lighter the radio works. Does this mean that I won't be able to use my cell phone charger?
