View Full Version : My MSP is no more

I traded it in; I only got $13,500 for it with 3000 miles, but I only paid $15,900 so it wasn't THAT bad.
Anyways, I loved the way it handled, but driving it to work every morning to hear every bushing squeak was a bit agrivating. Also was to un-easy feeling I got from running the MBC (which made me take it off).
Formerly owning a Lexus, I also missed a lot of the luxuries I had. None the less I bought an 04 6spd G35. Here are some crappy pictures of it:

I'll still be dwelling around here because I know a lot of people here and am still interested in how the aftermarket support comes.
If anyone sees a black 03 MSP with ~3k miles in Austin on the used market, it's most likely mine. I know the Infiniti dealer got a buy bid from Premier Mazda, so it will most likely be there. That car is in GREAT shape and hasn't even been redlined yet.

Those VQ35 engines are sweet!
Best Sounding engine around, other than an exotic!

First, I recently turned 22.
Second, I went in to look at the Coupe, but it really isn't as good of a deal as the Sedan.
The sedan is faster (magazines and by feel) because it's lighter. The 20HP difference is more marketing then real HP difference.
The sedan is cheaper
The sedan had a lot more luxury features
The coupe's rear seat is borderline useless
The sedan has cheaper insurance
The dealers will deal more on sedans.
This car's sticker was $34,175, a comparable coupe would've been $37k+.
I drove both, I liked the Sedan better, it fit my life and style better.
Yes the MSP would win in a race with a lot of turns, but the G35 would win in accelleration without a doubt. I really don't drive all that fast, I can really say I didn't drive the MSP hard enough to really enjoy the car. As an everyday commuter car that occassionally sees spirited driving, the G35 outshines the MSP about 100x. If I was auto-x'ing frequently, then the MSP would outshine the G35. They really aren't comparable cars.

i agree with everything you said except for the backseat of the coupe being useless...whenever i've sat back there i thought it was rather spacious...

I'm almost 6'1 and my head was touching the roof. Also, at 6'1 no one would be sitting behind me.
I also thought the front seats moved too slow, it would take almost 10 seconds to get the seat in the parked position to allow someone in/out of the car.
The sedan works better for my lifestyle. Especially since I get more options at significantly less money. Also, Infiniti's residual is higher on the sedans, and my insurance is lower.

well...being 6'1" probably does alter the way a backseat could feel.... :)

im glad it suits your needs, but the sedan is not as fast as the coupe, and the 0-60 time is around 5.8, not 5.5.
shoulda bought a 350z :)

You didn't go for the AWD?
BrianV
01-23-2004, 05:48 PM
AWD doesn't come in stick right now. Also, I prefer AWD as I don't ever drive in real inclimate weather.
As far as Sedan vs. Coupe. Road & Track tested the auto's, and the sedan was .1 second faster. Another magazine tested the sedan at 5.6 and the Coupe at 5.7.
The Coupe weighs 100lbs more and has a smaller wheelbase. Although there is a 20 HP difference, it's more marketing then anything. The 350Z and G35c have a 7 HP difference yet they put down the exact same to the wheels and have the same exact exhaust system. Realistically the G35c's exhaust system buys it about 5 extra HP and a small loss of low end TQ.
Drive them both, the Sedan feels faster as well. At any rate, the differnces are so miniscul that it doesn't matter. I don't race, and paying the premium for the less equipped coupe didn't seem logical to me.

One thing I don't like is the amber instrument lighting. That's gotta be changed to red.
Damn! Nice car, man. (thumb)
