Spotted A Mazdaspeed Today!!!!!!

OMG GUYS YOU ARENT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS.... i was minding my own business cruising around town in Ann Arbor and i look over and i see a orange car... i was like ... someone better not have painted their mp3 orange.. i see that it says mazdaspeed on the back .. i literally spooged myself... i pulled over and stopped the guy while he was dropping his kid and wife off at a restraunt... i talked to him for about 30 min and then he GAVE ME A RIDE!!!!! the mazdaspeed is a little lower than our mp3's too.... i am a little dissapointed in the performance ... it was lower than i expected it but its ok..... well i dont want to type a 2 page thing bc then no one will read it but if you have more specific questions ask me....

Well, for some reason I'm not suprised to hear that you saw one. Especially in Michigan which is the motor city and all. I saw quiet a few prototypes and dealer models while I lived in Mighigan. I basically lived in Farmington Hills. The coolest prototype I saw was the new T-Bird like a year before it came out. Do you remember if the Mazdaspeed had dealer plates?

the engine bay was very clean and the turbo fits in very well... you guys jsut be happy we dont have cab foreward design.... well he wasnt press ... he was a director for mazda.... it had California Dealer Plates.... he couldnt tell me exact specifics though but i drilled as much as i could out of him.... and the turbo is very noticeable.... you can hear it spool up from about three car lengths behind it.... and the wastegate isnt that loud..... a nice BOV and Wastegate would be bad ass.... and a little more boost.....:mad: .... he said they were shooting for 180 -190 hp but the emissions demons is cali are holding them back and he said its probably going to be in the 170 range..... but no less than 170....

it was a little less harsh of a ride compared to the mp3 but it was still stiff... and like i said it was a little lower than our cars... i think they used less stiff struts....

we talked about a lot in that half hour.... about my tranny problems.... the sway bars... he did notice the forums and he said they are familiar with them... which means Mazda NA is WATCHING us.... :p ... the acceleration is probably on par with a celica gts... or in that range... which is pretty good but i want better.... and they could have done better.. the seats are the same except some of the stiching and there is a little more blue in them.... the system is sweet ... very clean sounding and gets loud.....the sub was a lot better than ours...

and i didnt ask for any numbers of hot family members ... lol...

but i was close to kicking him in the nuts and then taking the keys and borrowing the car for and extended period of time....lol

The ride is probably softer because they're using slightly larger tires. The struts are the exact same as the ones we have.

According to Mazda's website the power is listed as "SAE net". That's supposed to be measured at the output of the trans with accessories connected and running according to SAE.

As the topic says...saw one today on the way home from work. Couldn't believe my eyes initially, but it's the real thing. 17" rims, bright orange, Mazdaspeed3 badge, the works

Spotted: Hwy 401 West around Allen Rd. Followed it till I exited at McCowan.
Date & Time: July 29 approx 8:20pm.
Licence plate: 6892 (if I recall correctly...it was 4 digits only)
Probably exited off @ Markham or around there...there is a Mazda @Morningside & 401...so that could be a probable exit too.

As it was raining today, didn't want to follow that closely, but I was behind and beside him a few times trying to get his attention, he didn't see me. He was driving pretty fast too, and took off a few times when there was a gap between traffic...seemed pretty fast to me.

Anyone noticed it too, or am I seeing things?


I still haven't seen one... but i'm gonna lug around my digi cam in my car so i can take spy shots if i ever see one!

I personally didn't see it. I quoted one of my members from the Toronto Protege Club. He saw it and he couldn't believe his eyes. I'm sure it was a media or test vehicle. I also have no doubt that the car is ready to be shipped b/c the release date of the vehicle is sometime in Sept/Oct/Nov.

Yes, that's what I call a media car.

It could be a "test car", but you must realize that when a car is seen in a situation like this before it goes to the sales lot, it means that those people who are test driving it are NOT THE GENERAL PUBLIC. They are most likely either Mazda officials, automotive journalists, safety inspectors, etc...
The fact that you are buying one doesn't make you special enough to receive the kind of attention that you're asking for.

I saw an Orange (which looked kind of like fusia) MazdaSpeed in downtown TO today. It had California licence plates, from far away they kind of looked like they could be Ontario ones, the plates that is.

I think it looked pretty awsome.

I have my orange MS on order too, and like you I am getting very anxious and the more I tihnk about how far away october is, the more I wish i could just go give my dealer the coin and drive away in my car. I am certain that the car that has been spotted is just a media/test car. In the US, MAZDASPEED franchises havent even been fully established, registered, paid for, set up, whatever.........After that is done an MSRP should come in, along with final specs, I am hoping at the same time a couple magazines review the car. Then a more accurate release date will be set and the REAL thumb twiddling will begin.

I am in no way affiliated with mazda or any mazda dealership or anything in the entire auto industry for that matter. But I do not honestly believe that a car could be released in toronto at one dealership, while in the US, franchises havent been established, dealers dont know MSRPs or specs on the vehicle, nor do they know when they will be getting them, or how many, or ANYthing essentially. The fact that the spotted MS had CA plates even further confirms my thoughts as I assume that MAZDA NA/USA in irvine california or wherever registers the car so they can drive it sround so ppl can test it out. I do not believe, that there is a dealer in california who has these cars already, who is selling them already, and that one of the people who has bought one of these cars, has decided to up and drive it to canada first thing. I could be entirely wrong here, but these are just my thoughts:)

with regards to the color, i am anxious too. On the website and in the pamphlet in the dark tunnel like place the orange looks awesome, but one eyewitness posted here said it was "fushia like"? and if you watch the video on the mazdaspeed site (mazdausa.com/mazdaspeed) it looks light, like peachish in some shots as you can contrast it with the red tail lights. But I have a pic my dealer took at the NY auto show that shows a bright bright bold orange.

The colour is NOT bright bold orange. It is definetly a mix of "peachish" and "fushia". Granted this was in very bright sunlight.

thats a photo my dealer took at a car show, not tryin to argue just wonderin what the deal is. peachish fushia sounds more like a weird car color than a badass/cool one.......sounds like some color they would come out with for 150 beetles or something

Then when you move your cursor to the bottom of the window a menu will pop up with things like "donwloads" "interior" "exterior" etc....

i believe there is a thread about this video now, i guess someone just found it. To the best of my knowledge nothing on the mazdausa site has been updated with regards to the MS-P since like aprilish.....

i dont understand what your opinion is either. I agree it will certainly be spicy orange but what is spicy orange? Pictures seen on the internet may show differently, so we can discard those, but the pictures in all printed material I have seen, and what my dealer has seen at the car show contradict what people have seen in canada. IMO spicy orange is a bright bold orange, does "spicy" somehow mean peachish with a touch of fushia to others?

Yup I saw the MS-P in black at Carlisle in May as well, decent looking car in it's super special black.. looked ready to be sent to the dealer.. had a real vin # too

I should've taken a closer look at it while I had the chance, I was paranoid the rep at that booth would come back from lunch or whatever while i was looking under the hood and think I was tinkering ;)

Also got a copy of grassroots motorsports magazine at the booth right next to it.

I actually would paint my P5 spicy orange... but i think the black looks better.
One thing i would REALLy like though is the MS's interior trim... it looks fantastic!
