Guys

I need to know how much i am able to lower the car to keep it in legal limits. Anyone know where i am able to get that info from??

My plan is to keep the struts and just replace the springs.

Any help will be great

WA have a lot strickter laws on car modifications, so it might be best to talk to your dept of transport/main roads/whatever it is over there.

good plan to just keep the shocks and replace the springs. always a good way to start off with...but the shocks wear out a lot quicker. might be an option for you when you change the springs over to have the shocks revalved to suit the spring rate of the springs. will give you a better ride and the shocks will last much much longer

like davo, i'm about to lower my car too. i know the eibach springs are very good, but andrew can you suggest what brands in oz that you'd recommend? king, kmac, pedders, whiteline (thinking whiteline now), any others?

also, having the shocks revalved - how much would that set me back?

thanks.

i know a few ppl have kings, but i've never had personal experience with them.

shocks revalved, about $50-80 per shock i think (well that's what i've been told)

i have got kings on mine. heaps better handling. i bought the super lows 50mm drop and it looks pretty sick with my mags. Cost me 450 installed. i will try and get some picks up.

The standard Kings drop height is 35-40mm which I have and which you have seen kar10w.

Whiteline approves of the King things. Theirs are re-badged Selby springs and there is not a lot of difference (diff colour....)

Wow you guys have lowering restrictions? Cars in the US can have the whole floorboard practically dragging on the road and not be breaking the law except for noise pollution.

yeah we have lotsa car safety stuff... like pink slips!!!! elemental, thats why no aussies have really bothered with turbo... compliance costs a fortune!!!
damn, anyone in NSW know how low the protege can go? otherwise i need to use the phone twice tomorow!!

old thread, but its my turn for lowering now :)
options i'm considering:
1. $350 pedders or $400 king springs installed + realignment from local tyre store
2. US$185 + shipping eibach pro kit group buy (ahb11m how much did they charge you for shipping and how long did it take?)
I'm looking for 1.5" drop and progressive rate springs so the ride isn't too harsh. So i'm leaning towards option 2. I'll probably try and install them myself to save some cash and take it to a tyre shop to get realignment if required, or if i totally stuff it up.
what do you guys think? if I get jack stands and spring clamps, is it fairly straight forward to do it myself? i've read some bad stories about clunking and stripping bolts etc.
davo, kar10w what did you guys end up going with? pics?

yeah i'm very happy with the eibachs. only slightly stiffer than stock, but once it corners, because of the progressive rate springs, it really tightens up. i pretty sure the kings arent progressive rate either

oh, get it shipped via usps air mail. you get it in 2 weeks and it's cheap. you could go cheaper via ship, but you wont get it for 2 months and it's only slightly cheaper (couple of dollars)

Hey birdy where did you get your kings installed? Sorry to say but you got jacked/ripped with the price.

ahb11m

yep, def go airmail, the cost outweighs the frustration

mine cost $404 with exchange rate of 0.68 and took 8 weeks by ship

installed them meself, heaps easy just undo the 4 tops, undo the bottom stuff, pull out, compress spring, undo strut top bolt, then take out spring... reverse to put back in

thanks for the input guys... i really want the eibachs, but its gonna cost US$350 shipped via airmail or US$290 via surface mail. shipping is so bloody expensive!@#!@#

thats turned me off a bit coz i don't wanna spend that much just for the springs. does anyone know if theres is somewhere in sydney i can get them for cheaper?

maybe i'll just stick with pedders or kings :(

hey twilight, yeah i thought the kings might be progressive in the rear coz the catalogue seems to suggest that. thought i might save a few bucks and get some local springs. ah what to do.. what to do...

well from looking at snert's car (he has kings) they are linear.

there are heaps to choose from if you get springs from america. have a look in the for sale section and the authorised vendor section and see what you find.

I have kings springs they may only be lows but the have improved the appearance of the car and it handles really well. they are also pretty reasonably priced and they are a very respected brand

i think lowering the car is so bad....i wish i could too....sigh....freaking speed humps...5 of them in my block alone!! those things only slow the cars with lowered suspension and nothing else...i dont mind the round abouts...but pls....beloved COUNSIL...take out the humps~~

twilightprotege
05-17-2004, 05:28 PM
hahahaha...your area has speed humps!!!! nah nah!!! (my area will probably get them next week now).

but what i dont get with speed humps, is yes, they slow traffic down, but they make the street noisier. think of when an engine makes the most polution and noise....when accelarating....damn govt's!

i much prefer roundabouts or the traffic calming twistie thingies....lotsa fun :D

BigStarS
05-17-2004, 09:16 PM
exactly my point...the only thing they do is stuff up ur new suspension....as if a SS commodore would go any slower when approaching a hump...sigh....they can put in as many twisties as they want...but y stick a hump right b4 a round about!! sigh~~~
