very big topic on blown motors.....I won't go into specifics but I will say this:

NO'ONE THAT I KNOW OF HAS LOST A STOCK MOTOR

Not to say it hasn't been done, but you never hear of the stok motor going....people always have some sort of mods done. Personally your first mod on the MSP should be pistons and rods....after that you should get a standalone FMU and then you'll be able to modify your car to about 250hp....or you could just buy the Neon SRT and have that....stock.

Ummm....You better do your research!
I think I was the FIRST MSP to lose a motor.
I lost my motor at 3800 mi. and Mazda slapped a new one in.IT WAS BONE STOCK!NO MODS WHAT SO EVER!
I had the same prob as Twisted, flashing from the motor casting broke off inside the motor and went through the turbo and motor and trashed them both.

if you want to have a bit more fun in the msp, put your mbc on... just dont run more than 11-12 psi of boost on the stock fuel system and bottom end
Its that simple.

I wouldnt even try 12psi

I would rather get it to 8-9psi and upgrade everything, intercooler, exhaust pipe, intecooler pipes. It should be around 210whp

I read something not too long ago that I think Jersey said, he said that you SHOULD be able to boost up to where the boost/fuel cut is. It seems logical, Mazda put the cut where they thought it wouldn't be safe any more, so anything under that SHOULD be alright.

Yhis cut comes in at different boost levels. It is not a PSI cut, but an airflow cut. If its 80 degrees out, and your boosting 12 psi, it wont boost that 12 psi at 60 degrees, because the air is denser in colder temps.

I suggest your first mods should be FMIC, exhast, then look into building the enginer to handle more boost. :D

I understand that, but still, if you're not hitting the cut, you should be relatively safe...right?

No, if you dont know what to listen for, or feel, you will pop a motor. You dont have to hit "boost cut" to have issues, Ping, and detonation can happen at any boost level, and any temp. Its all in whats going on inside those cylinders.

True. I guess I will just leave it. I'm not the type of person to break my car and then try to get Mazda to pay for it, but just 2 more psi seems so tempting.

Ohh it is bro. :D Trust me. Its just safer to build for more boost, before you add the boost. Cheaper in the long run, because you dont have to pay for a whole new engine. :D

Sorry Matt, I wasn't sure what got yours. I have heard this metal flashing thing also, but never seen it in person or known anyone who had a problem like this personally.

I am another one currently going through this. My engine/turbo/etc. is Bone Stock! I had 4100 miles, 3 months old, and my engine blew. However, in my case, I complained of grinding noises and hesitation and coolant leaks from the first week I had my car home. It was only a matter of time before something happened with my car. Also, my flywheel had just been resurfaced, throw out bearing and clutch replaced, coolant hoses and radiator tube replaced, and an oil changed performed. I had it back from that repair for about 24 hours when the engine went. They are guessing there is a hole in a rod, but they haven't even diagnosed it. It died Dec. 19...whats is today? ;(

Looks like I am on blown engine #2 now. Mazda is again trying to deny warranty coverage. I have already retained a Lemon Law Lawyer this time, though. He is the one that wrote the book for California, so I am quite confident I will be getting a new car or all my money back soon. I might get a Mazda 3 or a 6, but I am not sure I trust Mazda's warranty any longer. They don't seem to stand behind their products. I love the cars, but getting a warranty repair from them is like pulling teeth from a Crocodile.
Hah, who else has had engine problems lately??

nictlg7@yahoo.com - Let me know!!

Thanks!!
