I went to the store last night, and came home about an hour later. I left again a couple hours later to take a movie back, started my MSP, and "BLAOOCK-ACK-ACK-ACK!!". I'm like, "what the fuck was that?!". I opened the hood to find a spray of blood and fur all over the engine compartment. Then I see the collar and notice it's from my 7yr. old little girl neighbor's cat! So now I have a bloody mess to clean, a drive belt to replace and a crying little girl to deal with.
Anyway, are those belts a pain to change? And might there be any internal damage from losing the belt? The car never turned over, but I'm wondering if any valve damage might be done. Any help would be appreciated!
Oh, the moral of the story is...chirp your alarm before you get in. Those damn cats love a warm engine compartment on a cold night!

I've heard that as an urban legend.

btw...was it the timing belt? if it was an accesory belt it shouldnt be difficult...just find the tensioner for it and go to work

You can't do valve damage, you have a non interference engine.
Why wasn't the cat in the house?

That's right, it's the timing belt I was thinking of...my bad. I was driving a work vehicle a few years ago (Dodge Colt...pretty quick, too!) when the timing belt went doing about 75mph. Essentially totaled the car. That's what I was thinking of, initially. It's the accessory belt.
The problem is it's a bloody fucking mess under there. I need a pressure washer, really, but I can't drive the car to the car wash.
What the cat was doing outside I don't know, but the little bastard somehow managed to make his way up there. God, I hate cats!
(Oh, my brother said I should post some pics...LOL!)

What a messed up story. I hope you're friends with your neighbors...in this sue-happy society I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to sue for the emotional damage of losing their pet.
Sorry to hear about the cat, and the mess you now have to clean up.

I remember seeing the snake pics in the RSX. That looked pretty messed up.

Well, got the MSP back on the road, today! Borrowed a friend's truck and trailer and towed it to the car wash. I managed to get some cat gut backsplash all over my shirt, though. GROSS!! The old belt is fine...just had to loosen the tensioner and slip it back on. No apparant damage, but the small bits of cat that I didn't get off started cooking on the engine! I had to just walk away from the car for about ten minutes until the barbeque was over. That's one fucked up smell, let me tell you.
The neighbors were cool, though. They said it was their fault for letting their cat loose on a cold night. They said they had a friend who had the same thing happen to their cat, and they should have known better. They told the little girl the cat ran away with it's "cat-friends" or something like that.
Anyhow, lesson learned. I'll be chirping that alarm from now on before I get in the car!
