There is well documented issue with 626 automatic transmission failing at around 45-55,000 miles. Do you guys think that this issue might affect the 6 too?
Anyone got more info on the 626 auto tranny issue? Is the 6 an ALL NEW car including transmission?

Here's a quikky summary. The problematic auto tranny on the 626 was placed in 4-cylinder 626's assembled in Flat Rock from model years '93-'03. '98-'03 models had like a gen-two version of the same tranny. This gen-two tranny was reinforced because Ford knew about the problems (hence these are more reliable). Yes, this is a Ford-sourced tranny.
I know a ton of info on this tranny because my parents have a '98 626 V6 auto (most V6 model's have a Mazda tranny that's much more reliable, but tranny has other disadvantages).

Yes, the 4-cylinder auto tranny on the Mazda6 is NOT the same as the problematic 4-cylinder auto tranny from the 626.
