Bastards get partial hard pipes, anodized red valve cover, & a Mazdaspeed oil cap. The engine bay is gorgeous except for that strut brace...it looks like someone slapped a cheap piece of metal on there.

guess they decided to do it right this time j/k

the budget was probably higher on the miata

Well they obviously ran out of money when it came to that strut brace. I had one on my old Corolla that I bought off eBay for $35 shipped that was stronger & nicer looking than that.

Yah, but Mazda still puts plastic tanks on the radiators.

Mine in my miata only lasted till 70K before it decided to spring a hellacious leak.

I totally agree. :)
And anyone who wants a new miata of this classic body style better step to it: the little mx5 is about to change and gain some weight. :o

The strut tower bar is just the same as the stock one painted silver and it doesn't do too bad for rigidity. It doesn't however look all too cool when so much attention to detail was paid in other astetic items in there. who knows they need to toss in an AEM EMS in the trunk, now there would be a nice "Option"

Not form the auto show, but has anyone seen the intercooler?

PS - This is not a Callaway car like the MSP.

how tall is it, it looks really tiny? I hope there is more to it and it is taller or something.

In the first pictures posted was that just a Lava Orange 3 with the appearance package that was in front of the MSM? From the little of it I could see it looked a little more sported up. Mabey it's just the car show glitz that's fooling me.

No that was a girl color Mazda6. It was a metallic reddish pink color. They also had a 6 Wagon.

all of the current NB miatas would be the same height, except for this one. it's lowered a lil' bit. and why would you want it to be taller ? that'd be more like a tall sedan, not a sports couple like this one.

I wouldn't agree. I would expect the NC to be a lighter car. The MSM probably weighs in at around 2450-2500 lbs wet, based on other recent Miatas that I've put on the scales. The weight is due to a lot of bracing band-aids added to an old platform. With a clean-sheet design, they can get the rigidity without the bracing.

Since the MSM was a factory effort and not a Callaway hack, it's going to be more elegantly engineered. I'm looking forward to taking one apart sometime :) Something's got to be done about that buck tooth in the grille, though...

bigger intercooler? ;)

and a nice full exhaust ;)

pleeeease!

Keith@FP

..and a bigger turbo, and some sort of electronics for fuel and timing, and a good BOV, and a better clutch....

Don't expect us to have any toys for it right off. Someone will have to bring one to us first! I suspect that for the amount of work it'll take to make it run with an FM II, it might actually be cheaper to start with the FM II. Depends on exactly what the other powertrain mods are.

I was thinking the same thing until I saw the 4-lug bolt pattern.....those rims are TIGHT!

are those 18s?
or do they just look bigger?

Keith@FP
01-09-2004, 08:11 PM
17". The Miata's not a big car, so the wheels look larger than they would on something else. Most people consider 15" to be the ideal size for performance on a Miata, with others saying 16". 17" wheels are purely for show.

I saw it today in NAIAS in Detroit! Really nice but noticed a few things:
*intercooler is like 1 sq. ft. maybe 14x14 inch without the plastic tanks so it's really tiny
*turbo related piping (right side of engine bay picture) had aluminum and rubber parts with diameter less than 2 inches, around 1.5~1.75. Again, SMALLLL
*no boost gage

i just want to get the part number on the dead pedal (assuming it will fit in the MSP)

in looking at the FMIC, it'd be VERY easy to put a bigger IC in there... just cut the pipes for the air in/out to allow for the bigger cooler and fab up some mounting brackets for the new cooler...

i see that being a simple upgrade!

god that intercooler looks pathetic and silly. Nice engine work though......how come we didn't get that :(

Because Callaway did the work on the MSP.

The MSM is all in-house work...

Now can people see why Mazda was not happy with Callaway?

jflo

a lot of people weren't happy w/ callaway

I am a miata lover myself..

I like the concept of the FI miata but..it's kinda weak even with the turbo, it's priced too high too ihmo.

oh well, maybe I'll change my mind if a MSM blast me by at the track.

it gain some weight too if I am not mistaken.

and i swear my oil cooler is bigger than that FMIC

it looks the same size as the DSM smic

i think the wheels are the racing hart CPS model. i just seen them today. that look so sick on that car. 17" and gun metal finish.

I see someone already made the comment about the FMIC, but what's up with this?

http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/12h/www.edmunds.com//pictures/VEHICLE/2004/Mazda/100377269/028724-E.jpg

If anyone finds the part #s for the dead pedal & the oil cap, I'd like to add those to my MSP.

damn...this is gonna be so hard on me. MSM or MSP ? i like the MSP's ability haul 4 of my friends, but the MSM is RWD, drop-top, built for turbocharging, and has a lot more aftermarket support and options...DAMN
