Just wondering if anyone else was having issues with continuingly poor gas milage with your MSP? Specifically, ones that are flashed.
I, myself am now down to about 20 MPG on highway, and 14 city. I plan on resetting the ECU tomorrow, and I have a pretty long drive sunday, so we will see what it is then.

do you think it has anything to do with the "winterized" gasoline in the pumps now.. isn't it more oxygenated or something for a few months?

no, I noticed this issue before winter really started. I have just been monitoring it as of late, a little more closely. Plus, the mileage would not drop off by 10 MPG highway with the "winterized" gas.

Actually, I have noticed a drop in mileage since the flash. I only get like 50 miles out of a 1/4 tank now on the highway...constant speed around 75-80mph, occasionally faster to pass.

I have a similar problem. I get about 20MPG on a mix of high way and city even thou I drive very slow and never rev the engine up. How are some people here gettting up to 36MPG ?

I figure my MPGs on every tank of gas and mine has not changed at all since the flash. My mileage has gone down by 2 MPGs now with winter - but that has happened with every car I've ever owned. My car is all stock by the way.
PS - my MPG averages as follows:
Summer: 31 MPG
Winter: 28MPG
Average "driving stint" time is about 25 minutes. For me, longer stints = better mileage.

I'm at about 5500 miles, and still getting well into the 300's on a tank(usually fill up around 340-350 and only put in 13 gallons). I don't always drive nice either:D

it all depends on how much you drive a day. warmups are a bitch.
oh yeah, and how much highway too =p

Yeah, the highway miles suck to all hell on my MSP, man. The 5th gear is way too short for 100mph driving!!
well, mine is worse, but, it's colder, i have winters on, my winters aren't the same exact diameter as my summers, and I have studs on as well....the winter tread alone will cause a difference in mpg. then take into account that it's slippery so the fronts spin a lot, I also like to leave the car on to warm up before I drive it....and there are so many factors I can go on and on ....
that being said, my mp3 did something similar as well. First year I had it, getting 500kms-525 around town per tank was easy. Last year I had it, I was getting 450-480. Dealer had no idea as to why.
I did notice a dip in mpg since the flash in the speed, and this was before the winters were on, but only for about 2 weeks worth, and it was getting colder.
When the summer comes around again, that will be my true test.

Hmmm I am still getting about a minimum of upper 300's to lower 400's out of 12 gallons. I almost always average over 30MPG.
Maybe you have a really heavy pair of shoes :D
The best I can do on 12 gallons is about 436 miles.

As you know from my previous posts, I have had this problem for the last 9 tanks of fuel. I always fill at the same station since the car was new. My milege was about 24 mpg with 90% freeway driving. This was before the flash. After the flash I was thrilled that it went up to 29. It has been getting progressively worse lately and is now down to 18. this is all freeway driving.
I had it serviced for this, they said as usual, oxygenated fuel. there were no codes stored, so obviously there is no problem right?
the last four days the catalytic converter has been stinking so bad which tells me that it is running horribly rich (like we didn't know that already) I have extensive black staining of the muffler tip and the idle and drivability is down the shitter.

Man Britt I really feel for you. You have had issues from the get go with the damn ECU tuning. I hope they can or you can get it worked out. My exhuast tip is very black as well but my milage is great and so is my drivability.

5000 miles on mine (bone stock) and I've been getting 31-33mpg - even with the snows on. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

how big exactly is the tank in the MSP?

See my post on whole year's gas mileage. No drop for me, post flash is the same, no difference at all.
Britt: something's wrong. Have the dealer read the short term fuel trim and the long term fuel trim numbers from the OBD II. And check all your electrical connections under the hood -- some sensor may be unplugged...? Good luck.

I got my flash at around 1000 miles, and now have 3700 miles. I just went on a trip that was total 366 miles and put in like 10.7 gallons of fuel, which is like 34 mpg. This was without skipping gears or driving like and old woman.about 30 miles of that was in town stop and go driving.
Sounds stupid but perhaps spark plugs are to blame. I never really noticed how important they are and how much they effect everything, as well as air filter. When I put in a K&N in my eclipse gas miles dropped dramatically, as well as old plugs that had 60k on them.

check tire pressure. ALso weather conditions like water on the road, snow and wind affect gas mileage since it increases drag and friction.

My gas milage is much worse now, Im gettin between 200 to 250 miles per tank. And my exhaust tip is black as hell. Plus the car always smells like gas. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE.
Not to mention lately 1st and 2nd gear is runing crazy rich. Feels like it wants to bog down

Trust me, the difference between the auto o/d and manual is pretty much nill. Doing 100mph the other day I was really soaring in the RPMs in 5th gear. I could actually see the needle going down slowly.
Damn you Mazda!!!

My first tank of gas yeilded 350 miles and I was pretty happy. Lately though, I'm lucky if I hit 300 miles on 12 gallons. I had my car flashed shortly after the second tank of gas and my car is completely stock. Like others have noticed, there is black residue around my exhaust tip.

wtf, i thought something was fishy, on my last three fillups around12-13 gallons i only get about 230 miles before the light turns on then maybe 270 all out. the fuel goes so fast in my car.

i get about the same.
Always fill it with chevron 93. I did notice it dropped the 1st tank after i got my hard pipes and BOV on, but its back to normal.
The most i EVER got was 330, and that was ALL highway, cruing at 75-85mph.

I got 22 mpg all city and just a 46 mile jaunt on the Captal belt way. I think it has something to do w/ my 6 mi commute to work with 19 redlights on the way. There's no way to get out of 2nd *sigh*
