I'm browsing around ebay, looking for a nice starion intercooler and come across this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2448104442

The idea seems like a very good one, its got a greater surface area to take in air than any cone filter and with a little fluid dynamics work, could be made to focus the air better into the intake. Just wondering if anyone has come across these or had any experience with them. If me and my friend can ever get a hold of a welder this wouldnt be too terribly difficult to make.

Lemme know what you think, and please dont just pull random stuff outta your ass with no reasoning ie: I dont think it'll work...it looks funny:p

There's absolutely no reason why a custom intake wouldn't work as well as a name brand intake....as long as you use the same quality of materials (mandrel bends, etc. etc.)

why would use a intercooler type setup when you should be using that space for a true intercool?

I mean yeah, the idea would be great. However, it's not going on my car and I'd personally laugh at you if you had an intercooler-like intake.

well I'd put it behind the grill so that way gravity would also assist in air flow, and put the FMIC in front of the radiator

I mean if you want to do it, try it.. PLEASE dyno it before and after though. I'd love to see if this idea pans out to be anything. I just don't think it's worth it.. I've seen a few of these in person where I've thought the car had a FMIC but after talking to them, it's just an intake. The car didn't sound like it had an intake on it (yanno, the typical sucking sounds) but I dunno if that means anything..

"removable front Plexi glass cover for debri protection"

to block the air intake?

LOL, I saw one of those hanging out of the bumper cover of a honda accord the other day. Looked at the guy and started laughing.

This may be a dumb question, but I don't know the awnser to it... can you have an intercooler on your car, and NOT have a turbocharger? I know that you can turbo your car and not have the intercooler, but I dunno if it works in reverse. Just curious...

The item that he is referring to is not an intercooler. But, yes you could have an intercooler w/o turbo. It just wouldn't be very effective in increasing HP

you could actually, if you had the intake on the inlet of the IC and the outlet connected to the engine, but this would be silly since you'd be using the ambient temperature air to cool your already ambient temperature air. The purpose of an intercooler on a turbo'd car is that the air is being compressed and thus heated and needs to be cooled
