Haven't bought a mod for my car in awhile and was thinking of getting an Injen CAI. I don't plan on doing any heavy tuning and would like to keep my warranty in tact so I thought this would be a good mod for $200. I just wanted to get some feedback on whether or not everyone is happy w/ the product....

Please dont turn this into a CAI vs SRI flamewar, etc...

Good mod. It was my first. The only thing about any of the intakes I've seen is that they get hot from the heat in the engine bay, which means that any cold air travelling through the pipe will also warm up a little. I doubt it is enough to make a difference. I'd also stick with the injen over other mass producers - I've talked to a few guys who have other companies stuff and they have not had good installation experiences. I originally had a problem with the pipe coming off the turbo, but a slight readjustment of the flange solved the problem. After putting it on, I'd suggest checking the tightness of the pipe clamps after the first drive because the heat will allow the "rubber" to become more flexible and you may want to tighten the clamps then. .... OK prob too much information, but.. have fun with it.

thanks for the info...I'd prolly need someone to help me w/ the install since i haven't worked on my car much...

the nice thing about the injen is that the installation notes are pretty good. the toughest part I found was in getting the old airbox off - there are a couple of nuts that are a bit hidden, and getting the cone filter back on. It's one of the easier installs to do and a great way to build confidence to try other things. If you haven't worked on cars too much, set aside a couple of hours to do it and take your time. If it doesn't go too well, you can always put the stock one back and get some help... If you want, you could fly me to California... lol

The instructions that come with the Injen CAI are very easy. They even include pictures. I don't have much mechanical experience at all and I put mine on just fine. You will feel better if you do it yourself and you might just learn something.

Oh Hell.......! You don't need any help , Its so.... easy . I didn't even look @ the pic's... to much , just don't tighten anything down to tight so you can't move it around to get it set in right.

When you get it to that point , tighten all down to the point to where it looks like it is starting to bubble up thru or around the clamp. You should be done then , ENJOY !

thinking about fabricating my own CAI from an ebay SRI, could you possibly scan/post the injen instructions? sadly there is no haynes manual for our cars :(

If you want to keep your warranty, check with your dealer first. I had one dealer tell me that a cai was OK and onther said it would void my warranty :wtf:

Yeah I'd like to keep the warranty, but I think a CAI shouldn't affect it as long as you keep the rest of the piping stock and don't mess w/ the intercooler piping, etc....but I guess it all depends on the type of dealership you go to..

Keep in mind a dealership itself cannot void a warranty. Only MNAO er whatever their abbreviation is can. In this case, unless you drop a screwdriver down the intake piping while installing and turn on the car, then you'll be fine.

(also helps to take donuts with you when you go to the dealer for work... trust me.)

...gobble on!

Good mod. :)
Gives the car a better sound, and it cant hurt performance.
Also, make sure you tighten down the hose clamps... more than you think you need.
Dont wanna blow a pipe off. :)

Good luck.

I just installed mine last week, and it took me a while due to the cold weather and darkness.
print off the " how to" install notes from this website that Ghost did. It helped me out.
Also, I would look into getting a used one, they pop up now and again, and more are popping up due to people getting FMIC's or hardpipes that come with their own CAI.
I got mine used from a member here for $125 (thanks Prospeed !).

The filter was a total PITA to put in there! Other than that, installation was simple, looks very nice. I need to check my plugs because my car is not performing like it used to, and it's only got 12K miles on it. Accelleration is not as good on the low end, but makes up for it in the top end. But like I said, could be something with my plugs...

I've heard the NGK coppers don't last all that long, and they are cheap, so I'm thinking I'll just buy a new set, swap them out, and see if that does anything.

Other than that, the injen is extremely loud! Still trying to get used to it:D Don't know if I like the sound or not!

combined with an exhaust it's a great modification. I've been very pleased with mine.

I'm pretty sure TURBO magazine did a run up on the injen intake. They claim, (with dyno charts to back it up) and with a bigger FMIC, that the intake will boost HP output by around 20 in the lower end and about 3-6 peak. Just thought you would like to know, it will also be my first mod :-)

like I said, could be my plugs...but actually felt like I lost some power in the prime torque area. Dunno, not that worried about it:D

That was actually iON's intake/FMIC...same design as the Injen though.

Not bad makes your car sound nice and gives you a bit of ponies....just dont expect a huge performance gain like 50 to the wheels. Your going to have to get a full exhaust to utilize that intake to the fullest. But I suppose anything is better then the rollercoaster ride they call the Callaway intake/snorkel.

its my first and only engine mod at the moment. it has satisfied me. install was super easy, mainly because i already had the bumper off anyways. didnt have to drill for the coolant bracket, just used a different hole. its all good.

Go to search engine and type in INJEN. Or try overboost.com. ptuning.com or some similar online tuner shop. Should be about $220 shipped or less.

I believe the part # is like RD6066 or something like that. Go to Injen's site, get the number and then do a google search by just the part #. You people need to learn to use *all* of your resources to their fullest extent. :D

Do you have to reset the ECU after installation?

I am debating on whether to get this CAI or not. I currently have a K&N drop-in panel filter. I just dont want to risk getting any damage to the engine if the front bumper gets a nice splash from a rain storm.

www.nopi.com (http://www.nopi.com) sells the injen at a reasonable price. As for me.....i'm in the process of trying to find a slightly used one (preferably black).

So......if anybody is willing to part w/ thiers please drop me a line!(thumb)
