Here's another awesome turbo diesel video:

It's about 18 megs or so.

good video, bad song

What I can't understand is how come they give us a hard time about exhaust emissions and those trucks smoke enough to empty an arena! Also, seems priorities are out of whack when the cops tell me my exhaust is too loud as a Harley rolls by and we have to wait until he's gone to be able to hear each other.

Yeah I agree it's not really fair. But the legislators look at it differently. Diesels pollute differently....they put out more particulate emissions, but less carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides. Most diesels don't even need a catalytic converter. My 2003 truck doesn't have one....just a 4" turbo back exhaust system right from the factory.

Now if you run Bio Diesel in a diesel engine, the pollutants are cut way down. It is made with soy bean oil, so no petrolium is needed from the middle east. I have run B20 in my truck which is a 20% blend of biodiesel. It actually gave me more power and better mileage. The only problem is that the service station selling it was over 50 miles away. Once they start producing it in mass quantities, it will be great. Check out www.biodiesel.org

SWEET!, thats good info. I knew there was some reason for all of the smoke! Could you imagine having a cat on those trucks soaking up all those deposits?? It would be clogged in about 10 passes!!

the black smoke is just solid carbon, that will eventually just fall back to earth, coating everything with soot, but it doesn't really release much in the way of actual polutants, just like Mazdadan said

This is why Cummins doesn't use an EGR valve on their diesel engines. VW uses them and all the soot gums up the intake tube when it tries to reburn all of that muck. Most VW TDI owners will remove the EGR plumbing right after they purchase them.

I could only imagine if they used a cat. Some diesels do...I couldn't imagine how many times you'd have to clean/replace it.

I found the picture of the clogged VW intake tube from the EGR....look how gummed up it gets:

Yeah, I haven't seen many places selling Bio, though the one I think cummins dealer in westminster has it.

Yeah, Bio has a nice smell to it when it is pure B100. Smells like you are cooking some food in a frying pan. No soot either. When I filled up with Bio, I got some off Rt. 140 in Westminster. I think they are one of the only places, besides the eastern shore that sells it.

It will be great when one day there are more diesels in the US running Biodiesel and we can just say screw the middle east. Plus it will help out the American farmers.

Yeah, but the $$ tied up with all the petro companies will fight to keep it to a minimum. It really sucks that we have all these really good fuel alternatives that would help out our economy but the politicians won't let it happen.

Yeah, if there were more Biodiesel stations closer to me, I'd fill up with it all the time. I don't mind paying a few more cents per gallon knowing that i'm supporting the American Economy and also get better mileage and put out less emissions at the same time.

Holy Shit, it looks like he's been plowing with that tube... lol

Damn, a guy here at work is selling his 00' Jetta TDI with 55,000 miles. I wish I had enough cash for a commuter like that!

My dad used to have a 1984 Toyota Camry turbo diesel (I think it was an 84', weird for a camry in any case) and that thing had all sorts of problems. When it was working right though, it would haul some major ass. I can remember travelling through West Texas and he had the cruise set on about 105. Fun stuff!!!

How much does he want for it? Those Jettas have lots of potential and get nearly 50mpg. If it's a manual tranny, then it's even more desireable. Whoever buys it from him should do the EGR mod, and get some upgrades from Jannetty Racing. They have all kinds of VW TDI stuff:

Wow, those trucks are nuts.

And those TDIs...wow...what filth.

I'd do the same if we had gasohol around here too. More power and less emissions. It'd be worth it.

He was asking $13,000... I just called and he'd sold it two weeks ago for $12,000... I guess I am a little behind. :(

I drove the car stock, it wasn't very impressive from a stop, but it would go pretty well on the highway.

Oh yeah, Lisa... it's been a while, how YOU doin'? :)

Amen to that. Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has made muliple Soy and Corn based fuels and of course can't find any stations that will carry them as anything but blended with petrol (even though any modern engine could burn the corn alcohol variants alone). We all know this is because the Petrol companies would cut their contract with any station that sold it.

Ford made their concept Super Stallion that ran on either pure corn alcohol or gasoline, all you had to do was flip a switch. Funny part was it was more powerful and more fuel efficent on the alcohol with less emissions.

Gotta love big business. If not for this kind of crap we might all be sitting around talking about our modified Tuckers.
