congrats man...the judges were kinda shitty..i mean, a pt cruiser with only a paint job and a blinged out syon beat pro 5's car that had more than 10k worth of mods on it??? just shows how much mods compared to looks means at these kinds of events...kinda sucks because some people spend thousands of dollars on mods, sounds, etc and win next to nothing, when someone with a paint job, or painted hood can win everything... seems like anyone that puts all show no go stuff on their cars can win anything...including best mazda!

yes the whole mini van thing really sucks if i was dave i would have protested it but i guess dave was a little on the quite side but you have to rember its not how much money you put into it or how many mods you have its how clean you do it and smooth the car looks but the pt and the minivan thing was way out of line...

I agree with the whole judges issue. My friend Misty and her husband entered two street bikes into the show. A Hayabusa and a Suzuki Jixxer. The jixxer had spinners on it, so crazy. Anywho, they both got second and third place, when a stock hayabusa that was only in the street bikes booth won first. IDK too much about bikes, but it looked to me it only had a different paint job, and nice set-up around it. Mirrors and stuff on the ground. Also, the judge knew the owner of that bike, so that could've been something too. But other than that, glad there were some Mazdas that took home some trophies. I mean, it was sponsored by Mazda. Could've been sad if no Mazda won.

I just didn't appreciate the fact that one of my friends put a lot of money into her car on both performance mods and appearance. Then when she wins she is criticised by another Mazda owner saying her car is nothing but appearance.

This is not about you MSPHAWAII. I'm not attacking your car. I was referring to the judging. How can a judge get a good feel for my car when he only took 2 minutes to look at it. Only opened my driverside door and glanced at the interior and then close the door. I'm just saying that I feel like I didn't get a fair shake in the deal. Especially in the wagon class!!! As far as the Best Mazda all our cars was good. After spending as much money and time as I did (over 12 G's) and to feel like I didn't even have a shot for the Best Mazda (due to the judge, remember I told you guys I didn't feel good about how he judged my car..........!) makes you feel like it's not worth the money and the time!!! But whatevers....... I'll just be happy with being the fastest Protege in the State :D ;) Hehehe!

my guess would have to be that the judges dont know what a MSP is....therefore he gets mad points for the custom 3 stage paint job

a couple interesting points tho....
1. Whats wrong with an all show no go car winning at a car show? Thats WHY it is all show and no go......because its for SHOWING at SHOWS and its purpose is to win SHOWS.....thats why its a SHOW car, isnt it? maybe im missing something.

2. What do we all think a car SHOULD be judged on at a car show? From some of the posts in this thread it seems to vary. Is the judgment of the winning car to depend on the amount of money spent on it? In which case a protege5 with 10k of mods could lose to a stock rx8 since 30k > 26k ? Is it overall appearances of the car? If this is the case then you cant really call bad judging because its very subjective to the judge's tastes.

Yes Keola, I was refering to you. Because of the quote above. It seemed as though you were attacking Justin and Wendy since they did win Best Mazda. Being that they are friends of mine I was angered and quick to respond. I hope you can understand reading back over that how I might have interpreted it that way. I am sure you would do the same if you felt one of your friends was being criticised unjustly.

However, it seems that my anger led me to misinterpret what you were saying. If you were refering only to your anger toward the judging I am sorry for what I said.

As I stated above even though I was not able to attend the show, I was sickened by what I have heard about the judging. I mean c'mon a Scion (a friggin minivan no matter what anyone says) beating Dave and Chris's P5s out for Wagon class. I mention Dave and Chris's rides because they are the only ones I have knowledge of, I know other guys were shafted too. All of this combined has definitely ended my plans for entering the show next year. The judging sucked and I am not here to argue that with anyone.

I no more want animosity with another Mazda owner than you do. I hope that this thread has not created any bad vibes that will lead to people not showing for meets and cruises because one person or another is going to be there.

yes...i too feel robbed by the scyon and pt cruiser...but i didnt take as much time and care into my car as those who won that day...i truly believe you all deserve it for all your hard work and effort...god knows that chris was polishing his car 24/7 two weeks before the show!!!! my car unfortunately didnt win...but like i said, i wasnt really there to compete...just cruise, represent mazda, and if things went good, i might have left with a trophy

The funny thing is that Pirana, who you all know has a nice show car got beat by a stock Integra GSR at a car show here locally. When he told me I was like :wtf:. Most of the carshows I've gone to recently with him have yielded him good standing (1st place, 2nd, etc..). It all depends on what type of carshow you go to. Appearantly they had different agendas at this one from what yall were expecting. Hang in there....you'll hit the right kind of car show soon.

okay, about all the posts b4... the show is done and over with. judging was wrong and we all know personally. i think whoever was in the show and got to showoff their ride, win or lose, thats awesome. in my heart and mind, i find keola and jarrett huge winners, even though they did not recieve anything. dave, jarrett, and keola where there from day one, meaning... when the protege scene was getting big in hawaii. i respect everyone that was in the show, mazda or not, just for representing themselves... well there were some cars i didnt care for... :) hehe but yah thats my 2 cents on things. the loss will only make u stronger. live and learn :) take care everyone
