My car sounds like that, minus the turbo and blowoff sounds. HKS is sweet exhaust.

is it me or does it look like the s15(whatever that is) is quicker off the line? The person driving the WRX sounded like he was taking it easy? Both sound nice but I like WRX's deeper rasp better.

The reason the WRX sounds so much better is because it's an STI, at least the badging would lead us to believe this, 2.5l boxer engine, beautiful engine, reminds me of the old Volkswagon's. The engine layout is COMPLETLY diffrent from your standard inline 4. It would be pretty hard to get your car to sound like that.
You would have a better chance of making your car sound like the s15. It has a lot closer dimensions to the Mazda FS-DE.
What your car sounds like all comes down to a few things: Displacement, Timing and Cam(s) (Duration, lift etc). The exhaust you have on the car really doesn't change the sound that much (Im not talking stock vs aftermarket, this is more like comparing my mazdaspeed axle back to the racing beat cat-back). Also please note, Im not talking about how loud the car is either Im talking about the tone of the exhaust. Unless you put a Flow-Master on your car!!! Because all us rednecks that grew up in West Virginia know they are the best! ;)
Anyway, I dont mean to sound like an ass. Im just trying to enlighten, don't flame me!!! ;)

you dont think boost makes a difference in sound? i can definitely say it does, it makes more of hte sound like an idling diesel truck when you are boosting....i think the fs-de engine sounds very good and i dont think anyone was under the impression that it would ever sound exactly like either of those 2 cars

I guess I just took it the wrong way then. You're right boost does make a very purty sound.

Nice. Hehee. Not a big fan of the canister style exhaust, though. =) But that's just me.
As a side note, on a turbo car, the exhaust note is generally a lot more mellow than on an N/A car... All the resonance that the turbo prevents and all that. If you want to hear the biggest difference there, take the exhaust off of a RX-7 Turbo and off an RX-7 N/A, and drive them both; The N/A sounds like a pissed off weedwhacker and the turbo sounds like a low, loud thrum. =) Either sounds not so healthy, though, due to the lack of exhaust plumbing. ;)
