Hey guys,
We're somewhat new to the board, but just wanted to post up pics of the P5 as it stands now.

The car is lowered with JIC FLT-A1's, however Rishie (ARD MP5) are still working out the kinks there.

The rear's aren't "supposed" to be tucked like that, but I wanted to snap some pics before the sun went down.

They were originally the same height as the fronts, but in order to improve ride quality, we have been altering the preload on the coilovers.

Hopefully everything will work out there...

So without further ado:

Oh and NO comments about the Altezza's please :)
Trust me...I am usually the first one to scream RICE, but I actually like these Black Chrome ones and think they look good with the "JDM" head lights.

Looks nice n low!(thumb) How's the ride? Is it pretty stiff? You don't know the spring-rate, do you?
Sorry for all the questions. :) I have FLTA-2s and I'm wondering if those FLTA-1s have softer springs and if so, will they fit on my coilovers.

Is that where part of my stock shocks went? Damn pieces of the Shadow are going to wind up all over this forum. Looks great by the way. Nice rims

Did you need a camber kit?

Hey guys,
The 240 in the background has been a work in progress for a LONG time, my girlfriend and I are actually bored of it and are planning to sell it.....

It's a 92 SE....with an SR20DET Blacktop...That front bumper is for the S15 conversion that just needs to be slapped on....

I think my girlfriend still has somewhat of a site up at www.geocities.com/nd2boostt

As for the spring rates, I think they are 5 in the front and 4 in the rear. Unfortunately the ride is VERY harsh, and you can feel every bump in the road. Rishie is supposed to be speaking to JIC about this issue as these coilovers were designed for daily driving as I understand it.

I'll keep you posted as to what the outcome is there. Rishie has been great in answering all of my questions thus far and I just hope they can come up with a proper solution.

No camber kit is needed for the front because it comes with camber plates. In the rear, the coilovers have already been slotted straight from the factory.

As I mentioned in one of my posts, the technology is awesome!
But the ride quality needs some serious work.

Thanks!
J.J.

wow, the ride is still harsh? is your damping set to the softest?

Also, the back look like you need to adjust the camber.. it's kinda tilted

Well blackp5 has just opted to pick some up so I will have some here before the new years. We will install them and I'll finally be able to see what exactly the "problem" may be.

The primary concern I have is each person's definition of "harsh". It's a pretty relative statement so please don't jump to any conclusions until we can get a set on here at our place and I'll see what's going on.

We put a set of FLT-A1's on an MR-S last night and it was phenomenal. Very very nice ride quality. Way better than the A2's. So I know that app was beautiful. I am confident that should I come to a similar conclusion as TurboBunny, JIC will make the necessary changes as this model has been designed for street comfort in mind.

Natey,

You can get those spring rates and it may help, but at the same time the A1 is a twin tube low pressure damper, whereas the A2 is a high pressure monotube damper. A lot of the firmness comes from the damper itself. This is where the price difference comes from.

The rates should be 5Kg and 4Kg. The A2's are 7Kg and 4Kg.

Also, adjusting preload and ride height should be two entirely independent things. Dumping the car to that height should have no effect on preload. If that ride height was acquired by dropping the spring rather than raising the lower shock bracket, then damage will be caused to the twin tube damper. It will be functioning in a range of motion it was not designed to.

Long story short, we will have a set here by the end of the week and I'm sure James and I will post the results.

Peace, Rishie

Thanks for helping out Rishie!!!

I hope you guys are able to figure out what's up, because i'd really like to get them to work!

Give me a call as soon as you know something so I can fix things up as soon as I get back to Dallas....

I have already adjusted the rear camber and raised the car up using the lower shock bracket (it was not lowered using the spring bracket). At first, I had over-tightened the rear spring preload thereby increasing its spring rate which made it "harder" to compress...After I loosened the spring preload to the way Rishie and I discussed, the spring was "softer" so it was able to compress more.

Of course this is just a visual alignment. I'll have to get things perfectly dialed in when I get back from my vacation.

Turbobunny where did you get the bumper lenses? My p5 is silver as well and those look really nice. Are they the celica lenses?

My eyesite is pretty bad. But are those real or fake Blitz 03 wheels?

TurboBunny
12-22-2003, 03:08 AM
Unfortunately, they are fake Blitz 03's.....ADR Lightnings...
We wanted to get real 18" Blitz 03's but 8 inches is the smallest width available.

So we then thought that we might want to go for the 17" Blitz 03's....Now I'm glad we didn't spend the cash...I found these on Ebay for $300 and thought... you know what, let's see how these look, and if they look good, we'll go for the real deals....

These rims look like 15's in person and we would have been really disappointed had we laid down the 2G's to get the 17's.

So it's just going to be these fakies for awhile until we can decide on something else we might want...maybe some Volk's or Work's...personally not a big fan of Racing Hart anymore.

Wow all 4 for only 300? Those look good. Trying to get some ideas for my P5, I still have the original rims and they are in great shape but it's always good to see what else is out there. I'm looking forward to tax time. That's when the windows are getting tinted. And possibly lowering the car as well. Is it possible to have your car lowered ever and not have to worry about how bad it's going to feel afterwards?

How's the ride quality?

blackp5
01-04-2004, 03:05 AM
the ride quality is good. it's a tad bit stiffer compared to the spool springs i had.. nothing that i can't stand. i think the trade off for giving up some ride quality for great handling is way worth it.

1 F 3 R

i tried 5 F 5 R one night and it wasn't that bad at all

TurboBunny

Unfortunately, I can't say the same. I've tried 1F and 3R and it's bouncy.....I've settled for 1F and 2R and its bareable, but I'm definitely not happy. I've owned almost 10 lowered cars and ridden in over 50, and I can honestly say that the ride quality has been much harsher than all of them.....

I'm sure people people will make the argument that you have to sacrifice ride quality for performance, but these coilovers were SUPPOSED to be designed with high ride quality in mind. I'm sure if I went with the Teins, I'd probably be happier......

Don't get me wrong, the JIC technology and build quality are top notch, and if you can deal with the bumpiness/ride quality then these are definitely the coilovers to buy.

But if you want a lowered car that you aren't going to mess with and enjoy a comfortable ride, you may want to check out something different.

If you're in the DFW area, feel free to come check it out....and we'll have the car at the big Austin meet in March.
