Dear lord, I really wont comment. Most of the cars ARE rice, but that guy just really has a nasty hate against sport compact people all together.

Guess his Rustang crossed paths with a STI or EVO, and got his pushrod ass handed to him. :D

V8's are great, and fun, but the excitement of building them is gone for me. Just about veryhing you can do with a pushrod has been done, whereas the sport compact scene just keeps getting more innovative, and more technologically advaced, that the GRS and Supras and REX7's are the Chevelles, Mustangs, and Camaro's of today.

Its the future, and the pushrod heads cant deal, nor adapt to it. That is why they are so bitter towards it.

I totally flipped out after I saw the first picture.

Some funny cars, but I think calling them rice is hurting the good name of other imports. Nowadays, people call any import that's hooked up rice and also the atrocious ones.

he's just another narrow-minded, self-righteous JACKASS! his opinion-fine. but don't tell me my car is a p-o-s because it doesn't have pushrods and weigh 6,000 lbs. just cause you don't like it doesn't mean it sucks. i mean, i don't like his g/f, but man, does she SUCK! LOL

hate to burst your bubble but 2003 Cobra's are running low 12's with amateur drivers and their engines are DOHC Supercharged V8's - Ford hasnt used pushrods in decades. STi's and EVO's dont stand a chance despite costing the same if not less in most situations. Plus... they're made by subaru and mitsubishi (headshake

eh, i kinda agree- cept I'd rather get a car thats just as fast for $20,000 less. Oh - and the cobra's a DOHC supercharged. The 'vettes a 9.6billion litre pushrod. Hello! Welcome to the 21st century, GM!

ya - the vette has a lot more displacement and weighs less. Ford is becoming more and more import-like with their engines. In '05 there will be no more 2valve-per-cylinder engines. THe Gt's will run on 3. But who the hell cares about GT's. If yer goin american, go top of the line, right? I mean f*ck - they arent expensive or anything.

I don't get some of you people. Who cares if an LS1 has 5.7 liter displacement and pushrods. Its putting out 340 horse and 350 ft-lbs at the wheels (STOCK) and getting 27-30 mpg at the same time. Why does it need 4 valves per cylinder or a red-line higher than 6300 rpm?

you're right. The Corvette is an incredible vehicle, however, theres just something about taking a giant step backwards in engine technology that really leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Anyone who denies the power of a corvette, by the way, needs to learn about a Mr. Dale Earnhardt and how, despite being a folk hero to all those NASCAR fans, also took a team of drivers over to Le Mans and whooped UP in C5-R's. That earned my respect for the Corvettes...

if I was to buy a Cobra or a Corvette tho, I'd so get the Cobra. Every mod you do to that beast equates to at LEAST 20 wheel horsepower.

Ironic you should say that :)

thats what everyone who drives a Supra and then compares it to an RX7 or an NSX says - that the Supra handles like a Mustang. Hehehe. Trust me, you take a Supra and dump 10k in mods for it and then pit it against a Mustang with 5k of mods on it, and the Mustang will abso-f*cking-lutely own it silly.

shinzen
12-24-2003, 01:15 AM
yah, give me the nsx or the rx-7 any day vs a drag car like the supra- don't get me wrong, the supra is sweet, but the handling is why I love imports

Newest issue of HOT ROD the STI ran the 1/4 faster than the 03 cobra. Thats stock for stock buddy. So joe blow in his stock cobra does a stop light race against an sti, the cobra is probably going to spin like hell, and the stil will just grip and go. Highway rolls would be a different story. Mod for mod the cobra would gain more power, but it has 4 more cly than the sti, and cost around 5k more before you add in the gas guzzler taxes. Give me 5k in mods to an STI and I'll be glad to own a stock cobra.

hah - you're telling me an STi, with an amateur driver, can run a 12.5? I not only refuse to believe that, but also refuse to believe 1 magazine over about 10 others that would tell you the exact opposite. Plus - who in gods name would ever buy a subaru? Especially one as expensive as an STi. Subaru is second to worst in reliability - second only to Kia. Oh - and thats not a magazine that says that, that was from a government study collecting data from a wide range of car buyers and measured in defects per 100 vehicles sold. The STi is the ideal rally racing car if you ask me, but honestly, there are much better street and track cars out there. Oh - and give me 1.5k in mods to a cobra and Ill mop the floor with a 5k STi. You do realize that a mere intake on a cobra yields slightly over 400 wheel horse power? They restricted the CRAP outta that DOHC 4.6 to keep its HP/Torque within feesable limits by giving it incredibly restrictive intake and exhaust. And god forbid you should slap on a $200 SVT Lightning supercharger pulley - that mod to a stock cobra adds somewhere around 60 wheel horsepower and makes it as fast as the current Viper in the quarter - a car that costs somwhere close to 3 times as much as the Cobra, mind you.

Ill have you know that less than 15% of the car was manufactured in Mexico - about 30% less than a normal Jetta. European Car tested my car at a 6.2 0-60 and other mags have tested it around 6.5 or so - so its nothing to sneeze at for a 17k car. (My roommate/hetero-lifemate was my salesperson  )

Oh - and I dont bash imports. I'd never buy domestic. As a matter of fact, I never even liked them until my friend got an '03 cobra. Wanna hear something funny? He's currently Lemon-Lawing it. ;) Gonna get an '04 Cobra out of it tho.

heh - i say get a 10k 3rd Gen, spend the difference from that and an STi on fixing it up, and you'd have a real street car.

You'd never buy an import?

The 03 Cobra is a beast of a car, noone is arguing that the potential is higher in a fi 4cly car. There is no replacement for displacement, its that simple. A fi 4cly stock for stock can hang with it though given the right driver. I'd like to see the cobra hang with an sti or evo on a road course though. Mustangs are great cars, for going straight, theres no doubt about that, its been proven since the 5.0's, but its not a handling car by any means.

i edited it - look again

anyway - you'd be surprised at how the Cobra handles despite a.) being a mustang and b.) having 400 foot-pounds of torque. Its on a modified chassis and is, IMO, the best mannered Mustang ever created stock (besides the Cobra-R) in terms of handling. Regardless - someone already brought up the "Mustang vs. Lancer/Evo" at the SVT Performance forum, and sadly, the 03' Cobras are beating Evos and STi's by about 6 seconds per lap. Astonishing, eh? The times are available online for all to see. Ill see if I cant find the link.

nah - you obviously havent been to the honda forums yet. The one thing I can say about the SVT forums is that there are a lot of people there that do more than just own a mustang - they race them. Not a lot of other forums can say that. Well, race as in more than just street-race - and not that there arent people here or in other forums that race, but the SVT guys more often than not drag or road race their vehicles. I respect that. Anyways, they have information - wheres yours?
