Hi everyone, i will be moving soon from Fl. to Va. and im thinking about renting a small 4x8 or 4x6 trailer and attaching it to my 2002 P5 auto. Uhaul will install the Hitch for around 120 dollars and then i am all set.

But my question is, has anyone installed a hitch on there p5? if so, should i look our for anything special or be carefull about anything?

i will be getting the smallest hitch which can hold up to 2000 pounds i believe. Well, any input on this would be helpful, im looking in my owners manual to find anything on hitches but i cant find anything.

I have a hitch on my car. It was the first mod that I did. I use it to tow a small trailer and a motorcycle. Never had any problem towing that combo. The biggest thing that I towed was a 6x8 foot enclosed trailer, but it was empty. I looked like a sneaker pulling a shoe box and it felt like a big parachute behind me.

My hitch was made custom locally, but I understand that you can get a ready made one. I think mine is class II, but the ready made ones are, I think, class I. Otherwise I think that the only thing diff about mine is that it has a huge cut out for my exhaust and it tucks up under the bumper so much, the guy had to cut an opening for it.

Damn dude...It sounds exactly the same as the way they did my hitch. They made the hitch for the Protege Sedan work on my Pro5 and they had to toss the muffler and cut out a little of the bumper. That was a long time ago though. I also used mine to haul a motorcycle. Weird

Both Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite make custom hitches for the P5. I have the hidden hitch installed on my P5. No cutting or modification, straight bolt on.

Yeah,

I didn't like that he cut my bumper, but I got over it. I don't know what he used as a base, but it fits and looks good, ie you can't see the cross piece unless you get under the car. I think there are pics of mine somewhere on here...

Yea...I like the Draw-Tight and Hidden Hitch. Unfortunately when I had mine installed they didn't make a hitch for the Pro5...way back in July 2001. I did like how mine was tucked up behind the bumper as mentioned though.

Since the Hidden Hitch is a bolt on kit, can i install it by myself? I am a really novice beginer when it comes to car.

Also, a223818, Does the Kit include everthing you need to just add a trailer too? If not, what where the exact items you bought and if possible what where there prices or item numbers. I want my company to pay for all of this so i can use it as part of my Moving Fee costs.

Guys,
There is a reason that your owner's manuals tells you NEVER to tow with your P5 - the engine oil cooling system is totally inadequate for towing purposes. It may seem "fine" right now, but trust me when I say that you are systematically destroying your engine.

How do I know, you ask? I'm the proud ex-owner of no less than two four cylinder engines that were destroyed in a similar manner... just towing a small trailer.

thanks for the advice, i decided to just rent a van to help me move instead of a trailer.

the B series pickup/Ford Ranger uses a 2.3 liter four cylinder not related to our engine.
