No, but the difference in price ought to more than cover a one-way plane ticket to pick one up from some other location. That's called "thinking outside the box".

By the way, there are two Spicy Orange ones left at MazdaSouth in Austin, TX (http://www.mazdasouth.com/html2/newsearch.php) - asking price of $16,500. Will probably go out the door for substantially less than that. Well worth a road trip for a new one (for $1000 less!) than one with 8800 miles on it already, imho.

I am asking this much cause the dealer would only give us 15,000 for a trade on a 3. So I am trying to get as much out of it as possible. I've read all about the new Speeds in TX for cheap, but I don't care, we will find someone here that doesn't know that!!

if the dealer will give you 15k for it then why don't you try selling it for ~16k. you would still make a profit and probably have a much better chance of selling it

MSpeed68
12-09-2003, 01:03 AM
Because we owe 19,000 on it. Don't want a huge pay off!!
But if I can't get this much I will have to lower the price.

i see. good luck selling it. if i had the funds i would surely buy it from you

Has it occurred to you that if you owe $19,000 on a car that can still be bought new for thousands less that perhaps you should just hold on to your car for awhile and try paying down the note instead?

Good luck finding a sucker... er, buyer for your MSP.

It's tough if you are 4000 upside down. Good luck selling it. Especially since there is a 2000 rebate on the car right now.

good luck

My 03 black msp is flawless and has only 4k miles on it. Infiniti offered me 11k, and mitsubishi offered me 12k. Infiniti had a orange one on their lot and said because it sat there sucha long time they had to auction it off and they only got 9k.

Yeah, I am not diving it very much, trying to keep the miles down.
It is now winter here, nasty storm. I don't drive it in this kind of weather. I wish I lived in AZ! I had a buyer wrapped up, he has a 2003 SRT-4, he wanted to buy it for his wife. They went to the bank a could not get the loan, oh well I will keep trying!!:'(

why chaning from a Speed to a 3??? Seems like a backwards step to me?

MSpeed68

It would be for the wife. We don't drive the speed for an everyday driver, only when its nice outside. I have my old Chevys, she can have a car I will feel comfortable driving everyday!

my friend payed only $ 50 for his brand new Mazdaspeed with only 9 miles on the OD........but the floor mats cost him $16,750 after the $2500 rebate Mazda is offering on there floor mats :)

Dude!! They offered you 15k on trade in???? You should've taken em up on that offer! (though, not to buy a freakin 3!!!) nothin against that car but... until they come out with a mazdaspeed version (which they may never do) it's just a better lookin protege es (ie. chick's car!) since you wanna get it for your wife... perhaps that's ok! but they why the hell did you get the MSP???? people really crack me up sometimes!! I tell ya! Anyway, MattyTurbo's right. If you wanted to get rid of this car and get a superior car like a WRX or something I could understand... I guess... but since you want to literally get screwed over with the sale of this car (even at $17500- a price you'll NEVER get- you're getting screwed) and for what??? a freakin 3???? LOL Come on man... stick with your car!

I'll leave you with this...

When asked how much people lost in the stock market after 9/11... a savy investor said "nothing, unless they sold!" keep your car!!!

So...the story is when we got the MSP my wife had a 1999 Dakota R/T that ate $30 a week in gas. She drove it as a daily driver. We got the MSP to keep cost of gas down and was somewhat a cheaper payment. Seemed like a better deal, but the speed isnt a daily driver. We are looking for a car with cheaper payments, good gas mileage (that doesnt require premium), and that she can drive in any weather. We both liked the 3 because of all these. She really likes mazda, the speed being her 3rd to own! She may have convinced me that hanging on to the car for another 10-12 months might actually be cheaper than selling. Will see...if we have a buyer we probably wont say no. Oh well...atleast I still have my old truck.

why not get a loaded P5?? They are dirt cheap right now! They have all sorts of special financing and will Mazda will be a lot more willing to work with you seeing as how you're a return customer and all. Also, the P5's are great. Probably not the best gas mileage, but that is my only complaint. Also, they're sporty, fun to drive, and have plenty of room. I had no idea how much I would use the wagon part until I bought it. Now it seems everyone tries to put stuff in the back to see how much it'll hold! Seriously think about the P5. It has a butt-load of rebates and you can get a fully loaded P5 like mine for about $14 and change...you can't do that on anything else right now.

Also, I meant nothing bad about the 3....just think it's a backwards step from the fastest car mazda makes to potentially the slowest.

A Mazdaspeed Protege is faster than an RX8? That's news to me. ;)

yeah, i noticed that too :) sorry, but after having driven both, there's no way the MSP is faster than an RX8, not by a mile.

I would say fastest might not have been what Matty was meaning, but quickest yes. Doesn't take much of an investment for a Speed to out accelerate an RX-8 as some members have shown. However, I am betting this is gonna change real quick with the appearance of the MazdaSpeed Miata and the full aftermarket support of the RX-8.

And for the price of a new, stock MSP (even with the available discounts), you could take a used Miata and add an FMII turbo or BRP M62 supercharger and leave both the MSP and the RX8 in the weeds. Comparing modified cars to stock cars is the very meaning of the phrase "apples to oranges".

That being said, I'd still suggest that the RX8 is the fastest car that Mazda makes. ;)

Um yeah, that's why I said "not much of an investment." A Joe P MBC and a set of new plugs is not what I would consider major mods and as far as I have seen that's about all it takes to out accelerate an RX-8 even if it has light mods too. Didn't really think I was comparing apples and oranges. Yes, you could take a used Miata with a turbo kit or super charger and smoke both of them. You could do the same with a P5 also. Of course that gets into the category of comparing apples to caviar. Not to mention countless hours of install time and trial and error ECU tuning.

Yeah, wasn't arguing that the RX-8 is faster (i.e. top speed). That's probably why I said "quickest."

Of course what would I know? I don't own a Miata and as Miata owners on here continually point out, (rash generalization here) Miata owners are really the only ones who really know anything about cars. :D

Trust me...if we could afford the RX8 we would already have one!

And I'd still counter that a used Miata with a $5k turbo kit is less of an investment than a new MSP with a boost controller. ;)

I'm glad you realized that. It does get tedious pointing it out all the time. :D

We're also generally better-looking than other car owners as well. :p

(In case it didn't translate well here in the virtual world, the above post was meant entirely in a light-hearted manner. :) )

Hopefully mine was taken as the same. Banter between Mazda owners of different types is what this site is all about right? To help each other out? Really? Hmmmm. How odd. (hmm)

Wanna hear a funny story?

Our only Mazda dealer here in town calls us up and says they've sold all their speeds and need a one on their lot. The guy said hes seen what good condition ours is in and his manager wants to see it that they might give us more than $15,000 for it. They also said that they would give us a good deal on an '03 6 (which can be financed @0% now)...would we be crazy not to take them up on the offer?
