2004 Ford Focus....yuck.

So here's the face lift for the 2005 Ford Focus going on sale in spring of 2004. Beyond front and rear fascia upgrades some interior retweaking there will be 3 new engine choices.

A 136-hp 2.0L I4 replaces the current 110-hp and 130-hp engines.

A reworked version of the 136-hp 2.0L I4 will also be used in certain states as a PZEV vehicle.

A 150-hp 2.3L I4 will be placed in the ST model. The ST model includes steering components and chassis parts from the European ST Focus.

A little note on the PZEV...Massachusetts had it in this past year's models. It was actually the 2.3L I4 that will be in the MZ3 and was in the 6. My friend had that focus...couldn't find any hop-ups for it at all! I drove it, and the power delivery is very nice.

Man this new version looks like a rental car...meet the new Neon! ICK!

I think you're probably right about last year's PZEV being the 2.3, but the information I read (from the very reliable Automotive News) said it would be the 2.0L. Oh well, not a big deal, it's not like any of us will be buying one!

PZEV is so cool, and cheap, I don't understand why more cars don't have it.

Ford also said the the new styling is supposed to reflect that of the new Five Hundred

To me it looks like they are tying in the Ford 500 which is coming out soon, which draws upon the Ford Mondeo that was never sold here (it sold in Europe). I wish they would have sold it here and killed the taurus all toghther. Whatever they are trying to do, Ford better do a hell of a lot better on the 06 focus, or they are going to really hurt themselves.

The Mondeo did sell here...it was called the Contour. The reason it didnt sell was because it was an awkward fit in fords lineup. the had a midsize taurus, a full size Crown Vic, anothe mid-size contour, a compact escort...Damn, how many passenger can you make? The contour was bigger than an escort, but smaller than a taurus. The price was also in between the two....buyers were split on what to buy, spend a little more for bigger tauru or save a little for the cheaper escort....p.s. I bought my 2000 Contour SVT in feb of '01....sticker was $23K no dealer EVER marks down an SVT product...I paid $19K OTD for it. Ordered from an SVT dealer in Georgia who went out of business.

FWIW the focus is fords best selling car in the world. The F-150 is the best selling truck and the focus is their hottest car. I highly doubt ford would risk goobing up heir hottest commodity.

p.s. Wait for the new focus RS and see what you think about th style then.

The interior pic posted is of the lower end Focus. The exterior is of the Focus ST. The ST will have an all leather interior with other options. It will carry the 155hp 2.3 but will have more torque than the SVT Focus. The ST will also have the SVT Focus suspension. Like mentioned earlier it takes it's front styling from the Mondeo. I believe it actually uses the Mondeo projectors. I could be wrong though.

I don't think its bad at all. Especially knowing the mod potential of the Focus it makes them all look cool to me.

Turbo Matty P...do you have a focus parked next to your P5??? this thread is no different than the many in the Mazda 3 section of this forum in which P5 owners just tear the 3 apart.

This thread is about the appearance of the car, not the quality, performance or any other aspect. i think the fact that the majority who have responded to this thread may be an honest sign that the new design is dulled down and possibly aimed at a more upscale/older group. In relation to the old focus, most of us just don't like the new one.
