Anbody got a wierd ticking coming from what seems to be the turbo or manifold area under the heat shield, at idle?? its worse when the engine is cold. and its pretty damn loud. Just lookin for some more feed-back. I posted about it before but didnt get much input. Its throwing me off because it doesn't seem to be rythmic.
I just need to make sure somethin isn't all F'd up before I start to mod.

I get the same thing. This is the first enging I've heard it on this loud but everyone who mentions it just says it the timing chain(i think). Just letting you know that its not just you.

There is no timing chain in this car, its a timing belt and its basically silent.
Most 4 cylinder engines I've ever owned ticked. Its generally louder when the motor is cold.
I don't think its anything to worry about. Mine ticks too.

Ya mine is frekin loud. Engine shops tell me its bad, dealerships say its normal.
On a quiet night turn your engine on let it warm up, walk to the back of you car and see how many feet away you can still hear it...What sucks is i can feel the tick in the car, the suddle vibration that coinsides with the tick.

Yeah, thats why I said (i think). Wasn't sure if they were right. This is the loudest engine i've ever heard though.

just so we get this clear. I'm not talkin about say the standard sounds of injector pulse or the cams and valves. those noises can be heard as well.

LOL maybe we should start our own "record your engine while idling" thread. Kinda like BOV sounds thread....

does it get louder when you rev?

I get the same thing. It sounds like metal on metal but then again it doesn't. It's just a weird sound.

It might be a bad valve lifter, go back where your muffler is and feel if you get a something like puffs of air coming out of the muffler, or just a straight flow of air. I think if it is puffs of air, its a bad lifter, the exhaust valve if i am correct, somebody correct me if i am wrong
