View Full Version : Turbo Timer function question

Quick question about turbo timer functions. I just bought a Blitz FATT turbo timer...my car is in pieces and I'm read to install this thing. I checked all the threads about installation and I'm ready. I just have a simple question:
Turbo timers usually have several modes. One mode is to manually set the count down time. The other adds XX amount of sec for each hour. And Blitz has a function where it reads RPM and then decided on the appropriate count down time.
I know I have to tap into:
Red (Power)
Blue (Ignition)
Black/White (Accessory)
Which one of these will reads RPM? What exactly does the Black/White (Accessory) wire do?
I assume Black/White (Accessory) wire provides the RPM data to the "brain box." This doesn't really make sense.
Those who have Blitz FATT or DTT installed have you encountered any problems with this function or any other functions (i.e. cabin Temp and volts)? Someone told me no matter how hard you drive your car the Turbo timer is going to choose the same XX minutes as the idle time...thus the RPM function doesn't work. This might be a rumor but I'm curious if anyone has encountered the same problem.
Thanks for helping me out and I did do a search for this and can't find anything but instructions. Please don't flame if this is a stupid question... :D Just trying to learn.
One more question: has anyone tried using the HKS universal wiring harness or an RX-7 wiring harness. Seems like all Turbo Timers are using the same three wires (Red, Blue, Green). I rather screw up a universal wiring harness then to cut/splice the wrong wires. I don't want my MSP to explode by cutting/splicing the wrong wire. Im going to MacGyver the hell outta my MSP (i.e. build a turbo timer outta a stick of gum and spam) Thanks for your help!
Edit: New question/ problem that might answer my previous two questions

I cut off the connector (since there is no wiring harness available for the
Mazdaspeed.). Now you will want to connect the Red to Red,
Blue to Blue and Green to Black/White . One the ignition harness, I used the Blue and Red wires
according to BLitz instruction the Black/White accesory wire should be wired to the blue wire on the TT. The Green wire should be wired to the blue ingition. So its should be black/white to blue and blue to green. Has anyone came across the same problem?

Thanks for the instruction...already saw it. Printed it and memorized it.

Okay I finally got around to reading the instruction that came with the BLitz TT...here is what it says
Purple- Hand brake
Black- grounding
Red- 12v constant
Green- ignition wire
Blue- secondary ignition or accessory wire
If this is true then the black/white (accessory) wire should be connected to the blue wire on the TT. I think most instructions have the Blue 12V ignition wire connected to the blue wire on the TT. According to Blitz taht blue ignition 12V wire should be connected to the green wire on the TT.
This is what one of the instruction on this forum said:

just do as the instructions in that link say...it works. unless ur car is like mine and for some reason u should use the other blue wire instead of the the blue wire that's in the same row as the red and black/white wires
oh yeah, also my car didn't come w/ a black/white wire...just plain black

yeah jflo, that was some weird shit
my FATT DCII is set at the highest RPM setting
i dont knwo who says that it will count the same as if the car was idling because after a long drive, when let's say the time on the tt is 2:30, if i let the car idle without turning the key to the off position, the timer will count down.
not as fast as if it was counting down with the key taken out, but it does count down and will eventually reach 0.
also i've had my car idling for 30 min once, and the time on the tt was only 7 seconds.

I see the same on my instructions:
Purple- Hand brake
Black- grounding
Red- 12v constant
Green- ignition wire
Blue- secondary ignition or accessory wire
I connected it with Red wire(12v constant) to Red wire of TT, Blue wire(ignition) to Green wire on TT, and Black/White(accessory) wire to Blue wire on TT. Is this correct? I am thinking that it is not because my TT does not work. I don't know if this is the problem though. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Well Its been awhile but
Your TT
Red- 12v constant (should connect to red wire on car)
Green- ignition wire (should connect to blue wire on car)
Blue- secondary ignition or accessory wire (should connect to black and white wire on car)
This only applies if you have a blitz TT...other TTs wires come in diffrent colors. Just read the manual.

The TT just turns off when I pull out my key. Do you know what that A or B switch on the brain of the TT is? Thanks.

no but try that. Im thinking you might have the wrong settings...or a defective TT

You probably don't have the wrong settings. Where do you have the wire that's supposed to be connected to the hand break connected to? Try just connecting it to a good ground and see how your turbo timer works. I can almost guarantee you that if you have it hooked up the way you said and you do this it will work.
These are the correct wiring instructions:
Red- 12v constant (should connect to red wire on car)
Green- ignition wire (should connect to blue wire on car)
Blue- secondary ignition or accessory wire (should connect to black and white wire on car)
Also, make sure the ground wires are hooked up to a good ground.

I connected the purple - hand brake wire from the TT to the White wire connected to the e-brake. Is this the right wire? I will try to ground this wire and see if that works. Thanks.

I got it to work. That T-tap provided by Blitz is kind of strange. I clicked on one side, but not the other. Thanks for all of your help.

how did you know to use the other blue wire? my car is dropping rpm's like mad when i take the keys out, it goes down to zero and then jumps back up, sometimes it just shuts off, regardless, all the accessorices still work and the timer counts down even though the engine is off

hey thanks anyway man, oh and i was wondering if is it normal that my boost guage is reading .52hkPA (7.54psi) for my peak boost on a pretty much stock car? i was thinking of upping the boost from stock to 7.5 but it looks like its already there? i'm kinda confused. does it have to do with the cold weather?

did you mean you just move the green wire to "the other blue" on the car?
you didn't really mean that you swapped the wires right? eg: "green" to the "black/white" and "blue" to the "blue"?

i think its blue to black and white, and green to blue, and red to red
