Just wanted to let everyone know that corksport.com has a familia badge for sale that will fit our p5s. It says it fits year 99/00, but if you pull off your protege5 badge it fits right into the holes. Only $9 plus shipping too.

Only problem is the adhesive that holds on the pro5 emblem is a bitch to get off. I had to use lighter fluid for like half an hour just to get it off of there. Final results well worth it though.

I just know I'm gonna be driving and a soccer mom behind me gonna turn to her husband and say,"What's a mazda familia?"

You not proud of your P5? Why would you want to rebadge it like all the Honda Type-R cars running around that never existed here in the US either.

In Japan the pro5 is called a familia. It's not like I'm a honda punk who puts a type r on his car and tries to say I've got more under the hood than I do. I'm damn proud of my car.

Would you say my friend who has a Nissan 300z with a fairlady badge on the back is not proud of his ride. Once again that's what the 300z is called in Japan.

Overseas not all cars go by the same name. I just don't see why you have to bust my chops for putting a different badge on my car.

personally I think its cool too.....but I wish there were NO holes under ANY of the badges....if there weren't...I'd remove them all....and leave it nekid....even remove the front grill flying M.....THEN watch them look and try to figure out what it is....you don't see many P-5's around my parts.....and would just like to keep it that way! lol its nice having only two of 6 in the entire area.....and you rarely see the others.....they aren't owned by car people..... they actually got them for their utility! lol

go figure!:D

Yeah, I think it's cool. My friend removed his Jetta badge and replaced it with a Bora badge.

I replaced my P5 badge with a JDM Sport20 badge a while ago,and i have no problem removing the P5 badge. Try my way,see if it work- First i let the car sit directly under the sun ,for 2 hours.and it was around 80F out, then all i used was my 2 thumb nails, and slowly pull them out from the edge, very slowly. it took me 10 min. then i used the detailer to wipe off the glue that was left there.(very little) Now for the ppl that are in the colder weather, i was thinking a Heat gun,or blow dryer will do the trick also. Hope this help!!

Oh, and ah your 2 thumb will HURT for around i'll say 3 days. But that's better than a screwdriver scratch,or dent. Well worth the pain.(I think).

I think the JDM Familia badge is a direct fit,but the one that i have is the JDM Sport20 Familia badge,it's a plastic thin piece, tapes right on. also covers the 2 hole. GOOD LUCK!

There's not a picture on corksport.com. But, hopefully mine will be up soon.

Here's the part #, 99p-8-020.

Hey an easy way to remove the badge is to run fishing line under it to loosen the sticky crap. Then just pull it off. Careful though it is just cheap plastic, may break.

Anyone know where I can get the 323F badge for the tailgate?
The european one I like. The Japanese Familia badge makes me think of a "family car".The last thing I want people to think about my car is "station wagon".
No offence to those who like it,just my personal opinion:D

I am thinking the same as zulu....I was gonna get that FAMILIA badge but I just don't want people to think my car is a family car or something........haha....But it is kinda cool...I am gonna think about that badge..........Just waiting for some pictures.....:p :p :p

I don't have a Familia badge. I don't care if people think of my car as a family car because that is one reason I bought it. My wife and I are expecting our first child. I needed 4 doors!!

However, that will not stop me from adding mods because you lever know when you may be running late for daycare and need to get there quickly!:D

PERSONALLY....I like the idea of the "sleeper" it gives you an advantage to the unsuspecting non-mazda lay-person.......so they think its a FAMILY car.....so they think its a STATION WAGON.....lol lol right up till you DUST THEM!

Before my MP5 I had a '99 Civic EX with intake and exhaust. I thought I was quick.

Sitting at a light and another Civic pulls up next to me. No bumblebee exhaust which is so popular in Central FL, no scraping from cutting their springs. NOTHING. It even sounded stock. He rolled down his window and said: "Let's go"

Oh shit! He just tried me like that.

Light turns green and we hit it.

He starts pulling on me. I'm thinking, "Damn, I can't drive" As he gets ahead of me there is a nice little Jackson Racing supercharger sticker on the rear window and a nice, clean looking aftermarket exhaust. As he pulled away I could hear the unmistakable sound of a Supercharged Car.

Damn. I gotta be more careful about who I race!

Sleepers are good. That is my plan with this car.

Was just curious....are the Protege5 and Familia the exact same car? I know sometimes it's the same base but the Japanese version will often have differences from what we get here in North America...just wanted to know if that's the case or if they are identical.

I_Vtec
05-13-2002, 11:16 AM
I'm pretty sure there's two japanese models. One with with the same engine as here, or close, and one with a 170hp version.

By the way shipping on that emblem was only $3. So that's a total of $12. Good deal if you ask me.

Thanks to everyone who thinks it's cool. Like I said, pics up in a few days just gotta get the film developed.

Hey Pro5....Two question.......Since you dont have the picture up yet.
I am planning to get the badge really soon...But one question......The is badge FAMILIA the same size as our MAZDA ?? Becoz I dont want to buy it and its different size...It'll look weird.
Also, Does the FAMILIA looks the same as the new J-SPEC ones ?? LIke is each letter connected ?? Or is it a whole sign with the word inside ??
Thanks.....

ok...i know that the familia badge fits the holes correctly...but did you guys that have it already use any other adhesive to put it on??

I_Vtec
05-15-2002, 11:29 AM
It's like a hair larger, but not noticeable. I didn't use any adhesive, but I did put a dab of clear silicone on each of the pegs so no moisture would get inside my tailgate. The letters are all connected. Not one big badge.

It will be at least Friday, most likely Saturday when I get my pics up. I don't have a digital camera or scanner so I'm gonna get pictures developed and have them put on a CD. Sorry about the delay guys.

You can't just LOSE someone's film and ay "Oops. Sorry". You can always take more pics of your car but what if had been something like a clloege graduation, a wedding, a once in a life time vacation to Fiji. I could go on but I won't. Try and gets some pics though. That would be sweet. I'm always looking for little things to make my P5 different than the rest

I_Vtec

They found them. But there's a problem. The files are too big for me to post on here.

I can't work with them, I'm stupid when it comes to computers. The only reason I even post on here is cause my job is an eight hour shift with about an hour of work.

I sent the pictures to cmack98 in NJ cause he was thinking of buying the wheels I have. I wanted him to see them. He's gonna scan them in and post them. I'll let you guys know where.

Everyone can now begin the insult post on my small amount of computer knowledge.:p

I'm with you about computer literallacy (not sure if I splelled that right or if it is even a word but it sounds right :D). I work an 8-hour shift with maybe 1-2 hours of work so we're in the same boat.

Anyway, I took a picture of my P5 and was going to use it as my "custom" Avatar but when I went to upload it I am only allowed a picture 75x75 pixels and I can't figure out how to resize the damn thing and keep the picture clear. Oh well. Hopefully my pathetic web page will be ready soon s I can post pics that way.

Good Luck

What type of files are you saving your scans as? If you're only scanning to post on the net, then use jpegs. A computer can only display 72 dots per inch (dpi) so anything more is unnecessary. If you reduce your dpi (should be under "resolution") and save as a jpeg, you might be able to reduce your file size significantly enough to be able to use it as your avatar.

I know that's, by far, still not a lesson in computer imaging, but hopefully it helps a bit.

OurP5
05-20-2002, 08:49 AM
I'm downloading them from my digital camera as a jpeg. Maybe I'm just using the wrong resolution to take the pic and it's getting blurry when I try to resize.

Oh well, this off topic. Sorry.

Back to the badges?

Not flamin...Just different tastes, the Familia badge doesn't do much for me. But the rims are great!! Really clean and unique. I've never seen those before.

Also, I'm envious. I have leather seats too but no "Flying M" I've seen some pictures of people with "Protege5" embroidered on their seats and now your Flying M's, my plain black seats look so, well...PLAIN. I'm bummed.

The car looks great.

Familia S-Wagon is the FWD 130hp wagon we have, but w/o the bodykit. The Sport20 is the AWD 170hp Wagon w/the bodykit.
