Scare the shit out of the sales person: Go at a sharp right turn only at 45 and throw the wheel.

I would listen to the turbo and make sure it is screaming abnormally, blast the AC and Heat to make sure there is no wierd noises.....

check for the hesitation problem. I think the dealers are supposed to have flashed all cars on the lots but who knows.
check for a possible leak in the drivers side rear trunk well/hole.
run across some bumps to determine if the clunk is there.
make sure the radio works and the sub isn't blown.
make sure they put air in the tires.
I only experienced the first problem. This car is fun to look at and drive.
Oh, be sure to call Mazda and get the production number and put it in this thread:

Make sure you don't have the 'alarm problem'.
Basically, if you arm the alarm... the parking lights go on and stay on. The dealer told me it'll be 2 weeks to get parts. Some have been saying that it's taken up to a month.
Question - It's been said that there is a big variance in boost pressures. How would one know if they have more boost than another car? I didn't test drive my car before buying it, but it feels strong and turkeys pretty easily.

I think the only way would be to install a boost gauge.

Just listen for the turkeys! If it sounds like there is a whole flock of them then you've got good boost!
(silly)
look for coolant leaks around the pipes too. Green crap. check again after the test drive.
Go over some bumps that will cause the car to sway left and right....like a curb or something. This will check the infamous clunk
Check for the ECU flash sticker under the hood, ask if it's been flashed.
Ask what bushings are on the car. If their not 156E's get them put on BEFORE buying it. This will save the sway bar from having to be replaced down the road.
You'll have to open that turbo just a little, just enough to hear start to whiine. Normal whistle noises are all good. But if it sounds like metal scraping against metal....not good.
