help! problems!

i own a 94/95 dx auto protege. recently its been giving me problems where the yellow "hold" button flashes on n off. i wouldn't care if that was just the case. Whenever it starts doing that, the car will not shift properly in the 1, 2, 3 order. It jus gets stuck at 2 and wont shift up to three. So sometimes, i'm jus crusing around at 50mph and the rpm is at 3000. To make this problem temporarily go away i have to turn off the car and then turn it back on...but its just comes back later while im driving. here's to put it in simpler terms:

when "hold" light starts flashing...
-tranny will not shift past 2nd gear
-rpm is really high
-won't correct itself (hafta turn off the car)

this happens when...
-I give it some more gas (not driving like a granny) or "driving the car hard"
-randomly while im driving

has anyone had similar problems??? does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it???

there might be a loose connection.. somewhere try tracing the HOLD wire from your shift lever up..

You may very well have done it yourself. My Protege did that with the light after I hit the dashboard hard. However, I only had the problem of the light coming on and off without the gear problem.

ricenuddles, I had the same exact problem....I took it to my transmission mechanic and he fixed, he changed the sensors and did some other stuff, bring it to your local tranny mechanic.

Is your check engine light also on?
