Thanks :)
Yeah - the 8lbs wheels which came stock on LEs weren't with the car when I got it..so I'm 'making due' with the 'heavy' 13lbs AE wheels :D
hehe
nice dude. sorry i dont much about miatas but your car is very clean and simple, i like i like. - chris

the engine bay is missing a little snail shaped something :)
other than that, which i guess i'll forgive, it looks good.
side note: i heard you sold the pgt-t, so is the money from that going into the turbo for the miata?

:)
Yeah - probe was shipped last week to Maryland...
We've got better ideas for the money from the sale ( o )( o )
:D
I used to have a GReddy turbo system on the car - just simply too much trouble buying and maintaning used parts. If I had the $$ (~$7K) I'd look for a FM2 system...$5K for the turbo stuff, $1K for a new rear end, and about $1K for a clutch-happy meal.
Then again, with $7K, I'd trade my car in, and apply that $7K towards a C5 or a S2K. :)
If I found a good deal on a used JRSC I may pick one up - they are quite a bit slower than GReddy turbo miatas, but the simplicity would be nice...after all, even the ~30-35whp the JRSC would bring could liven up my driving experience a bit.

anyone know how to load up their own Avatar?
jred321
11-10-2003, 11:21 AM
user cp, edit options, and on the bottom there is a choice for change avatar. you can then either pick an existing one, enter a url for one that is hosted elsewhere, or upload an avatar from a file that you have saved on your computer.
but it looks like you already have one, so maybe this isn't what you meant?

I don't have the $ to spend on wheels I'd never use... :(
Toss them in w/ an FMI kit, or a 11.1CR Piston kit, and we'll talk! :D
Thanks for thinking of me, Keith!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You certainly have a beautiful Miata. I wish mine looked like that. Heh, even though mine's as pretty, I've become too attached to it to convert it into a spec racer. I'm going to have to buy another just for that, lol.

I'm not on miataforums because I think the moderation policy there blows big ol' hairy donkey balls. :)

Don't turn this into a drama, Keith - It's not about personal attacks...it's about courtesy and common sense. If you'd like me to list my reasons, one by one, I can - off this forum. I'm not about to start writing specifics about why I feel the way I do.

Sure, let me know. I've been a mod myself on that forum and I know why it's being run the way it is. I believe the high quality of the forum is directly attributible to the moderation policies, and that the policies are perfectly fair. Gary Fischman's a friend of mine.

what the hell?! it was a "hey, nice miata Darin" thread, which I was willing to participate in, but then people start runnin their mouths... (lol)
Anyway, I like your miata Darin. What did you use to cut/polish the valve cover? or did you buy it like it is?
:)
Keith@FP
12-11-2003, 03:28 PM
You can cut the valve cover with a bandsaw. Polishing takes approximately 1 decade to accomplish :)

Great looking miata Darin.....take a look at mine on my website. Are you guys talking about the miata.net forum? Very well run but I also think the participants are on the average, a little older than this forum. The most informative place I know if I ever have any questions about my miata.

I really would like a hard top for my car.

Yeh, with a hardtop you can drive the car all year round. Probably could without one where I live but it's nice to have.

But the polished stainless looks amazing; I wouldn't have another colour! :D

I know! I bought my 10AE from a friend who was the first owner. He preferred the black powder-coat, so that's why my double D bar is that color. But I think the polished stainless looks the best with the polished 10AE wheels.
So I can't justify spending $850 just to change the color of the bar. :D Especially when I need new shocks. :o

12-22-2003, 10:58 PM
You need new shocks already? I have the original shocks on my 1990....Maybe they need to be replaced!
Mazdaspeedgirl
12-22-2003, 11:13 PM
How many miles are on yours?
Mazda says the Blisteins are guaranteed till 100K, which is quickly approaching. I'm at 87K right now, but 100K will come quickly as I am beginning to drive about 700 miles a week. :D
mctoone
12-22-2003, 11:32 PM
Wow...I have about 103,000 miles on my car. BUT I do not have Blisteins shocks...Just the OEM shocks that come with a 1990! I guess I would notice a difference if I replaced my shocks.
Mazdaspeedgirl
12-22-2003, 11:41 PM
Yah...you would notice a HUGE difference.
And I would recommend the Bilsteins. People I know who have driven miatas on Tokicos, KYBs, and Bilsteins say that the best bang for the buck are the Bilsteins. Stock replacements from the dealer list at $127 each, almost 100 bux less than Tokicos. Who needs adjustable shocks? I like a really tight, firm ride. :D
mctoone
12-23-2003, 01:20 AM
I wouldn't mind a soft cushy ride! I'm built for comfort! I had MG's all my life, now I want comfort!

Are Bilsteins really better than adjustable KYBs? Hmm, $127 a pop sounds sweet too :D
A set of KYBs can be had for around $400 though

For my money I'm going with the Bilsteins again though. Shocks take too much money to replace if you realize you aren't happy with trying something different. At least to my poor ass. :D
My 10AE is equipped with the Hard Suspension (a step up from the sport suspension--I found that info from the VIN#). I had a 99 sport and a base 01 miata before as well, the Bilsteins on my 10AE feel a hellavalot harder/stabil than either of the other two. (thumb)

KYB's would be good for me if I want comfort - right?
Darin
12-23-2003, 11:59 AM
fwiw, I thought Billsteins carried a lifetime warranty...
Mazdaspeedgirl
12-23-2003, 04:08 PM
Lifetime Warranty?! Shoot...I've been working in autoparts for years, and something like shocks are hard to prove if they're worn out, unless they're completely crushed.
In the past 20K that I have had the vehicle for, I have seen a wane in performance. But such a thing would be very hard to get Mazda or Bilstein to replace the shocks as they do not view decreasing performance as a faulty/worn out part. That's all a warranty is.
To quote Tommy Boy: "I can take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, but then all you've bought is a guaranteed piece of crap."

Good question. I'm not sure how the softest setting of the adjustables would fare against stick Mazda replacements.
I'd say if you are going to autocross occasionally, go with the KYB adjustables. If not, stick with stock replacements. :)

It's actually really NOT hard to work w/ Billstein...have you tried calling them and asking about their policy?
mctoone
12-23-2003, 08:44 PM
I just heard from my mechanic that Bilstein shocks would be better that KYB shocks...But he said that my stock ones are fine right now. Apparently I have to worry about my clutch!

whoa! chill out on the offense...I was only building a good opportunity to use that movie line. sheesh.
Anyhoo, I will give them a ring since I have a question regarding why the superceded the part number for the original shocks on my car for another number. Hopefully It's for a good reason. :)

I'm a newbie here, I thought this was a Miata Pics thread but it looks more like Fight Club! Anyway here is a pic of my Miata. It's a 1991 which I got box stock almost 4 years ago and as you can see I've modded it a little. :D If it looks interesting to you, you can click on my CarDomain link in my signature for more detail. I like to enter as many local show and shines as possible, belong to Club Miata Vancouver Island, and autocross it when I can. Happy New Year everyone!
